I deal with calls (on a land line) from the general public all day long at work, and based on the lousy reception, I don't understand how ANYONE can rely on a cell phone as their only phone.
Doesn't matter who the provider is, the drop outs and distortion make them a nightmare.
If I get another call like: " Hi this is garble garble garble and I want to talk to someone about garble garble gargle, I talked to garble garble garble ]about it last night and they said DIAL TONE" I'll scream.
Don't you cell phone only users get tired of that on your end....having to repeat things or call back to finish a call?
I'm with you here. Most of the people I know got rid of their home phones. "Why have both, I just use my cell..." they say. Well, if that's the case, then quit calling me because I can't understand anything you are saying with your "fabulous" cell phone.

At our New York home we use both landline and cell phones. At our Florida home we just use our cell phones.

We have both...and I don't plan on giving up the landline any time soon. :)

I just saw an article on the Comcast homepage about something similar to this and wanted to see how the DIS community is in regards to their phone use.

Do you have/use just a cell phone or a landline phone or both?

I just use a cell phone.

We are required to have both plus a pager and an answering service

:headache:

Currently we have both cell and landline, but looking to ditch the land line.

I really only use it to call my mom..who doesn't use her cell, and my sister's house.
Cell coverage where we live is fine. In fact it's our land line that we loose all the time. It's through Verizon. So, no way we're going to Fios.

I'm switching the landline to our cable company, because we'll have a lower rate for the internet and cable for a year if we do so. After that, I'll probably get rid of the land line all together.

We have both. I would love to get rid of the expensive landline, but DH uses it a lot for work so we have to keep it. :(

That's interesting, my land line is a LOT cheaper per month than my cell phone.

I'd say we use our landline more then the cells. That is how we make any call if we are at home and if we're out we'd only use a cell to call the kids or call home.. or find each other in the store when my husband wanders off.

This is us exactly.

Except in the complex where we live, we need the landline to open the gate for the Pizza Hit guy.
I can use a cell phone to buzz someone in, but it has to be a 504 area code. I got an iphone for my birthday and had to switch to AT&T which will not allow you to have multiple area codes on a family plan?????? I think all the other carriers will. I've had my 501 area code number forever (maybe 13 years) so I don't want to change it.

Two years ago I had 2 landlines plus 3 cell phones. It is nice to be down to one number.

Landlines were dirt cheap in California - less than $20 a month. I always had two and had the first one roll over to the second if it was busy. In Arkansas a landline is about $50 for each phone.

I like being able to be reached wherever I happen to be as I have two homes and I travel a lot. I don't have to answer, but I like staying in touch with my friends.

We have both. I won't give up my landline just for the fact if I ever have to call 911 from my house and I am unable to speak they can find me. A cell phone would give a lat/long but landline gives the address.

We use both plus we use skype via our PC for international calls to relatives over seas.

We have both. Internet voice, actually, with Comcast. First, for our alarm system and secondly, our kids. They do not have cell phones and if something happens, I want them to be able to call 911 easily. My oldest is 12 and sometimes stays at home when I need to run out for a quick errand, like to have him with phone access.

(yeah, Im the mean mom that won't give my kids cell phones yet lol)

We have no landline and don't even own any phones other than cell phones. It is Sooooooooo nice to never have to hear a home phone ring!

I'm actually quite surprised by how many people still use landlines! Around here I don't know very many people at all who even have them, much less use them.

I have a landline I don't even use except for voice mail and for people that I don't want talk to. I give them my home number. My Former use to hate it because they could not call me in to work early. Cell phone now is only give out to family and friends. I will answer it. As matter of fact ringer is never on the landline.

We have both. I would love to get rid of the expensive landline, but DH uses it a lot for work so we have to keep it. :(

My land line at the lake is very inexpensive - because I have the bare bones pkg. - no long distance; no caller ID; no call waiting; etc.. I use calling cards for LD (buy one/get one free when they're on sale at the Rite Aid up that way) and the two of them last me for well over 2 years.. (Typically when I'm calling LD, it's someone who has free LD anyhow - so they just call me right back..)

Then when I leave to come back here to DD's for the winter, the phone company allows me to switch over to my off-season rate - which is a quarter of my regular rate - until I return.. That way I can keep the same phone number I've had for years..:goodvibes

I'm not sure how much the land line was here at DD's - entirely different phone company..

We have both. DW uses her cell almost all the time, me...hardly ever.

We don't have a landline phone anymore, but I wish we did. Dh compromised with Magic Jack, but I hate it.
