Do you train for your Disney trip?

i never thought to train before we go!!! that sounds like a great idea!!! i think i will be training when i go in march!

No, we don't train for our trips but recently DH and I have begun walking for exercise. I've heard there's lots of food offered on the Dining Package and I dread the thought of gaining anymore weight!!!

This should be my best trip to WDW in a few years! I have lost 40 pounds since last trip in Nov. '05 - we leave in three weeks
I walk 3-4 miles on the treadmill every day (both for training and exercise!), and am also co-coaching DS6's soccer team this year! Definitely getting some running in there!
We tend to go slower when our two boys are with us, as they will be on this trip, so the pace shouldn't be too bad. I wear really comfy walking tennis shoes (Dr. Sholl's heel gel pads are awesome!), and definitely forego *foot fashion* for comfort! I just don't get how high heels and WDW go together! :confused3 Thise women are braver than I am!

BTW, did you try Cape May Cafe for their AllYouCareToEat Seafood Buffet???
DEEEEELIcious!!!!!

Of course I went to Cape May, the Biergarten(sp?), Chef Mickey for lunch, Crystal Palace, Spoodles twice and I forgot one right now?

Didn't make it H&V since DW said she felt too full to hit another buffet.

On a regular basis, I ride my bike 11 - 13 miles 3 times a week....before Disney, I ride about 20 - 22 miles, 3 times a week for about a month...in the shoes I will be wearing to the park.

Yes, I plan to train before the trip.... Even though it is a year and 3 months away. LOL. It is never too early to start. I normally got tired around 2PM on previous trips, but .. on our last trip I was a MESS. Prior to leaving, I hurt my ankle which made walking a great distance hard, then my legs would start cramping. It was a damper for our trip.... Not letting it happen next time.

I walk a lot at home and my son walks to school everyday which is close to a mile one way. I will increase the amount of walking. It can't hurt especially since I need to lose some weight before the trip. I don't worry about myself, but my MIL should start doing some walking. When we went to Boston, she couldn't complete the Freedom Trail.

Funny you mention this, because on our walk last week, we decided to add to our mileage, trying to get some extra steps in. Everything for Disney!!! :cool1:

I suffer from Platar Fashcitis. I had a big flair up about a week ago and am still battling it. We leave in 20 days. I find I have more trouble when I wear my Crocs. so I guess they are going with me this trip. Only tennis shoes with inserts. Any other suggestions? wonder if the cold water trick will help this.

When I wasn't exercising as much, yes I did try to "train" for the trip. Now that I walk quite a bit almost every day anyway, I don't anymore. I think it is a great thing to do for those who don't walk or run a lot on their own!

This reminds me of some friends I went with one year. This couple friends of mine were both HEAVY smokers and drinkers and very out of shape, but not real over weight just about 30lbs or so. After the first day of a single park they were both spent and acted the rest of the trip like they were 90 years old, stayed in the hotel most of the rest of the time. Sounds like you are already in great shape if you do a mile or 2 a day. I probably should do more walking before my trips for they do wear me out, but I run on adrenalin so I keep going strong the whole time despite the fact that I will get tired about half way into it.

This sounds so familiar and it's very sad. My mom and aunt are both heavy smokers and they NEVER get any exercise. My aunt isn't overweight at all, but my mom is by about 30-40 pounds. My mom's ankle swells really badly and when she went the last time her leg swelled up so big she couldn't tie her shoe and she spent most of her vacation in the room with her leg elevated . Of course they get winded due to the smoking. I told her to "train" for the trip and she walked for about 2 weeks, then just stopped. It really broke my heart that she couldn't enjoy her trip. Let me tell you their routine when they go.

They have a heavy heavy breakfast every morning. Eggs, bacon or sausage, biscuits, the works. And tons of coffee. No water - just coffee. My mom may drink 1/4 of her glass of water to get her meds down. Then they hit the parks and for lunch have a hot dog and fries or a burger and fries. Then for dinner they have steak. Now, if I ate like this, didn't drink enough water, smoked, not to mention I was way way out of shape in the first place, I think I would be laid up too. Then, after their evening they like to have a couple of drinks to wind down. They can keep up this pace a few days (barely) and then she's laid up. It's amazing. And if I try to tell her why this is happening to her, she gets mad.

My DH & I exercise regularly so we don't have to train for it. In fact we have a plan that we follow. We purposely make it a point to go out of our way to walk extra - maybe take the long way around...walk to MGM if we're staying at the Epcot resort area, and we even take walks just for exercise. It's fun...you can visit the different resorts and walk around for exercise and the views are fabulous. The reason we do this is so we can eat like pigs!!! That said, I still couldn't eat what my mom does every day. Good Grief!

I am worried about the same thing. I have very severe arthritis in both knees. I've had a couple of surgeries and will probably have total knee replacements in about 5 more years. The worst part is that I'm only 38 years old. I look very healthy and hate using the scooters at Walmart and other stores when I'm having a bad pain day. Plus, one of my knees will just give out competely and then I can't move. I have thought about renting the ECV, too, but I have mixed feelings about it. I don't want someone who needs it more than me to miss out, but I don't want to have to take Percocet the entire trip either.

I've been walking some and use an elliptical (sp) trainer at my gym. As long as I have a warm pool to swim in daily, I'll get some relief from the pain.
