Do you tip for furniture delivery

I'm having furniture delivered today and had to pay 10% of the purchase price for a delivery charge and an extra $200 fee because of the size of the furniture. Is a tip expected?

I don't know if it's expected but I do tip if they are nice & clean up after themselves.

I have always tipped the delivery folks when I have had furniture delivered.

I had this exact question last year. Most people felt if a delivery charge was built in then you didn't. I did end up tipping though because it was a miserable day and they couldn't get the truck in the driveway so they slogged an entire bedroom set from the road in freezing rain and set it up for me. Nice guys, and they looked exhausted from their miserable day. So it felt good to do something a little extra.

No, I absolutely do not - never even heard of it anywhere we have ever lived. We're tipped to death as it is But, I always offer them cold water or a soft drink - our deliveries tend to be in warmer months and I'm always very pleasant and thank them profusely. We were talking to one of our last delivery guys that brought our refrigerator, wondering it he was independent with his own truck or what (our purchase was from Lowes) and he said no, he was a Lowe's employee and they paid him very well. He loves his job, has good insurance, is happy, so tipping never even entered my mind, honestly

Yes I always tip delivery people. Not a lot but a couple dollars each. Today I'm having a refrigerator delivered will give both guys $5. If I wasn't happy with the service I probably wouldn't but that's never been the case.

I tipped my last furniture delivery guys because the weather was cold, wet and miserable when they delivered. We also live in a condo complex that does not have direct access to the building so the guys had to park far away and lug the furniture to our building.

We too live in a townhome development where the parking is not easy. Plus our place is not easy to manuever furniture etc into, so yes...we always tip (usually at least $5.00 each guy). My dh always likes to overtip, which is fine by me...it's good karma IMO.

Absolutely. I think $5-10 each guy depending on how much furniture is being lugged around and how difficult it is to get it where you want it in the house.

I did not tip on the last delivery, only because they charged me an extra delivery fee.

no i do not, but i also have not ever had anything delivered where the delivery wasn't an additional fee.

nope....I typically get a high enough delivery charge without paying any extra.

I do tip 5-10 bucks per person, but I have always been able to negotioate delivery charges with our furniture purchases. If it was a high charge, I might not tip unless I felt like they really earned it.

I delivered furniture for 5 years in my younger days and tips were few and far between. Nice when it happened, but it was rare.

I always do. I think it is genetic....my dad is a big tipper. I remember him always saying, "I like to spread it around a little, Heather." And, no he is not a democrat. Actually a very conservative republican.

i think it depends on who delivers. i did not pay my fridge delivery guys b/c i knew they worked for lowes. my mother's bedroom set came up from the carolinas (much cheaper prices). they drove it to the house in NJ from there and had to maneuver the whole set up bi-level stairs and down the hall and in. in that case we tipped, gave drinks, and even offered our restroom as they were there a while and they were small time delivery guys, not part of a larger well paid company.

Furniture is cheaper here in NC?? Never noticed that even though we have big furniture warehouses in Hickory. Don't notice it being any different here than anywhere we've lived.

I have not because the past couple times it was not from a local warehouse. I have to then pay freight AND shipping which can be several hundred dollars per piece. So no - not unless they go above and beyond.
