Do you think this idea would make people act differently at the parks?

Huh? Part of the reason we have gone to WDW all these years is the efforts many CM's make to do special things for us. If you haven't gotten outstanding service then perhaps the place to look is in the mirror. I mean, just in the last year, we had a chef make us dessert we did not order, a CM get us a last minute ADR at a normally busy place, multiple food freebies, a room view upgrade, and multiple other freebies in several different dining locations... ...and that's just in the last year that I can recall in about ten seconds or less. What comes around goes around, and that is still true at WDW. Most of the above happened not because we asked, but just because we generally make an effort to be respectful. This thread is kind of sad commentary on the damage the internet is doing to the idea of WDW as a magical place. the key to experiencing magic at WDW is having a positive attitude. When traveling any place, not just WDW, a few simple thank you's and please's go a long ways. Whenever we dine out and a CM brings something to our table, we say thank you. I rarely see anyone else around us thank their servers. They treat their servers like they are invisible.

Actually, I think posts like yours are what contributes to the internet ruining WDW, if that's true. For the most part, people don't receive the levels of "pixie dust" you report. It's not your awesome personality and manners, it's luck.

Because people like you claim that if you're nice and polite at WDW you get upgraded rooms, free food, and so on, people come back disappointed that all they got was what they paid for. Being extra polite to the CM checking you in doesn't get you upgraded, being friendly to your server doesn't get you free food, although they may be less likely to give freebies to rude guests.

The mindset that being polite at WDW gets you freebies is entirely not true, and publishing that kind of stuff online is what creates unrealistic expectations.

^^ This. :thumbsup2

I responded to a post in another thread - in a different section - but I've been thinking a lot about it since.

Maybe every CM could give out one perk every month - for a well-behaved child, for seeing someone throw trash in an actual trash can, for someone saying thank you to a cashier, for someone being friendly in line, for someone having patience, etc.....something like a FP - or a coupon for a free ice cream - or something small like that.

I feel like that may improve the behavior of some visitors & help people act less entitled and snarky.

Any thoughts?

I'd much rather if CM's were given the authority to eject one trashy, obnoxious kid per month. hehehe

Why reward kids for normal behavior. Rewards should be for something exceptional not what you expect as a norm

It's a nice idea but people should have manners anyway.. they shouldn't have to be rewarded for behaving like a decent human being.

What would work better is CM s not rewarding people for behaving like *******es. Namely, not kissing the behinds of those acting poorly..

This I can get on board with.

Tantrums and threats seem to get rewarded quite a bit at WDW. I wish CM's were allowed to stand their ground with guests who behave certain ways to get what they want. I also wish they were allowed to call guests out on their obvious lies, like the family we saw sneak into a FP line and tell the CM working at the 2nd scanner that they got through the first just fine. We've seen that kind of stuff multiple times in lines, and we've seen crappy behaviour get rewarded at busy restaurants too. I too don't like waiting past my ADR time, so maybe I should go and demand a table right now since that seems to work for other people.

OP - I understood what you were getting at. People who have manners and are respectful and courteous and teach their children likewise don't need rewards. But those who aren't so well-mannered could possibly learn from witnessing or obtaining rewards. It wasn't about "You get what you put out" or that there's not enough CM pixie dust spread around. It's about high levels of self entitlement sometimes is a real downer for others. At least that's how I understood it:confused3

YES!!!! THIS!! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

How about instead of rewarding the ones who act the way they should...

Maybe bullwhip the ones who don't...
Let the kid next to them blow bubbles in their face so they have an allergic reaction...
Run over their foot with a motorized cart...
Ride "It's a Small World" over and over...
Crash into knees with a stroller...

You could be onto something...

Like minds think alike.

Or here is a novel idea why don't the folks that see rude behavior speak up.

I have no issues with telling somebody to pick up their trash after I see them toss it on the ground.

Sad part is that even if you ask someone politely to pick up their trash.....or point out politely that the end of the line is "back there".....their rude response to being called on their behavior can be rather bad. When my girls were younger I actually left a line with them rather than listen to a man's 4 letter word rant when a woman told him, quite nicely, that the line starts back there. The scared look on my daughters' face made me not even care that we'd already been in that line for a while, I just wanted away from the foul tirade. They're teens now but they still get a rather shocked look when someone starts swearing up a storm just for being asked to wait their turn. And the CMs stand and do nothing.

Yeah, I'm probably part of the problem, because I "let" people get away with their rude behavior rather than have them go ballistic......but I don't want to watch that in my everyday life, I definitely don't want it on vacation.

Anybody think the problem is getting worse?

It is, probably in small part because they are allowed to get away with it. They know they will be allowed, so they use it to get what they want.

Sorry, I got the public bejesus knocked out of me in public by my parents when I acted an idiot. It only happened a very few times. I learned. Not everyone, especially today, gets that discipline. Kids today watch some individual act a fool and get what they want....guess what...kid learns to do the same thing.

Catering only makes the overall problem worse...I point this out to my children every time I see it.
