Do you think this idea would make people act differently at the parks?

I responded to a post in another thread - in a different section - but I've been thinking a lot about it since.

Maybe every CM could give out one perk every month - for a well-behaved child, for seeing someone throw trash in an actual trash can, for someone saying thank you to a cashier, for someone being friendly in line, for someone having patience, etc.....something like a FP - or a coupon for a free ice cream - or something small like that.

I feel like that may improve the behavior of some visitors & help people act less entitled and snarky.

Any thoughts?

In an age where they're now charging $17 to park a car for a day, I'm doubtful that Disney would give anything away in exchange for anything but cash. Sorry, I really think it's a good idea if they'd ever do it.

Sounds like a waste of money.

I'm pretty sure they already have similar authority right now, no?

That's what I believe, they still do "Magic Moments". My youngest sis was the recipient of a Magic Moment a while back at DL; She was admiring a Chip, her favorite, pin on a CM lanyard but she didn't have any other pins left she wanted to trade. Seeing her despondence over this, he went ahead and gave it to her anyway, no trade needed. :goodvibes

I've seen similar moments happen near me and even caught a glance at a CM writing it up in a MM binder, lol.

Kind of sad to think you have to bribe people to act they way they should be anyway.

Love this idea but unfortunately it would only cause some to then complain "Well I stayed in the designated smoking area/ threw my trash in the can/moved to the end of the row,etc so where's my freebie?"

I'm not suggesting it as a bribe. But, if people visiting the parks could be a little more aware of their actions - that would help the overall experience of many.

We have only been to WDW 4 or 5 times, and every time we've had a wonderful vacation. But, we have also seen many families with terrible behavior.

I realize that some people are just oblivious to how their actions affect those around them, but I also thought that MAYBE it would be a small step in a positive direction.

Exactly (unfortunately).:sad2:

How about instead of rewarding the ones who act the way they should...

Maybe bullwhip the ones who don't...
Let the kid next to them blow bubbles in their face so they have an allergic reaction...
Run over their foot with a motorized cart...
Ride "It's a Small World" over and over...
Crash into knees with a stroller...

You could be onto something...

It would only work if it was an every person thing, and even then it would only work for that specific situation.

Also, some "bad manners" people witness at Disney are simply cultural differences, or language barriers. For example, some places it is customary for tables to get bused, even in a quick service situation.

I would rather see extra effort go into fixing issues with their own parks before they attempt to modify guest behaviour.

People would then feel entitled to a reward every time they did something nice, so I think it would actually make things worse.

Huh?

Part of the reason we have gone to WDW all these years is the efforts many CM's make to do special things for us. If you haven't gotten outstanding service then perhaps the place to look is in the mirror.

I mean, just in the last year, we had a chef make us dessert we did not order, a CM get us a last minute ADR at a normally busy place, multiple food freebies, a room view upgrade, and multiple other freebies in several different dining locations...

...and that's just in the last year that I can recall in about ten seconds or less.

What comes around goes around, and that is still true at WDW. Most of the above happened not because we asked, but just because we generally make an effort to be respectful.

This thread is kind of sad commentary on the damage the internet is doing to the idea of WDW as a magical place.

the key to experiencing magic at WDW is having a positive attitude.

When traveling any place, not just WDW, a few simple thank you's and please's go a long ways. Whenever we dine out and a CM brings something to our table, we say thank you. I rarely see anyone else around us thank their servers. They treat their servers like they are invisible.

I worked at Disney during the Year of a Million Dreams when free stuff was given out daily. Still got screamed at by a grown man when the hot dog stand ran out of ketchup. Not much can deter naturally rude people from being rude.

Are you kidding me? Do you know how your comment comes across? Wow, how special you must be.

We are a family with 2 teenagers who ALWAYS say 'Thank you', we are rule followers, and would never DREAM of being disrespectful in any way! I wasn't saying that WE ever expect a reward - I was just suggesting that it might help improve the behavior of others who aren't so concerned with their behavior.

It's just sad that any one of us would need to be rewarded for doing the right thing. I try not to notice people's bad behavior in the parks, but some make it way to obvious to ignore.
