Do you think there will ever be a DVC at the Poly?

I've been missing our stays at the Poly and wonder do you think there will ever be a DVC there? Why or why not?

Thanks for your opinions!

I think if sales continue to be good, then eventually there will be a DVC at the Poly. But I also think it will be one of the last resorts to get a DVC addition for several reasons.

1) Limited land to build upon, without demolishing existing cash rooms.
2) The overall popularity of the Poly as a cash destination, why would Disney give up their cash cow resort, esecially given it was recently rehabbed.
3) Theme - to match the existing resort, a DVC high rise like BLT would be out of place, it would be limited to a few floors, and thus fewer units.
4) Upgrading existing facilites. If DVC does not replace existing cash units, but adds units to the Poly, they would need to add improved dining, and swimming facilities, thus further limiting the available land.

I'm not sure they would build/convert rooms to DVC Villas at the Poly anytime soon.
The biggest reason why I think that is because the Poly is pretty spread out as it is, and the addition of more parking you spoil the look of the resort - in addition to the fact that the resort is very well sited as it is in light of views - not only from the Poly - but also across the lake to the Poly as well.

But who knows!

I think you never can say never. My wife and I are certainly hoping. Interestingly enough if you had told me five years ago that they were going to add on to the Contemporary with the BLT I probably wouldn't have believed it. So keep your fingers crossed!

And you wouldn't have been alone in that opinion, as prevailing DIS-board thinking was that it wouldn't happen. Prior to that, the popular conception here was that a DVC at AKL would never happen because the construction would be too disruptive to animals and guests as well as the thinking AKL was too remote to generate much interest as a DVC.

My opinion, which I freely admit is pulled from thin air, is that if Disney thinks they can make more money with a DVC component at the Polynesian, it will definitely happen, otherwise not.

I would tend to agree with this, and that being the case I could see it happening sometime in the future but not soon.

Disney could do whatever they want, even with land constraints. Look at THV, something no one thought they could ever pull off, much less make part of SSR.

I bet somewhere in a file cabinet are plans for DVC at both Poly and GF...including how to do it. Now, if we ever see these plans could be debated.

In the case of Poly, I imagine they would start with the outer most buildings and possibly complete rebuild or gut and converting to DVC. DVC always seem to get the rooms furthest away....and there are numerous reasons for that (least desirable to cash guest, less disruptive for the rebuild, DVC members appreciative to just have an option, etc etc)

The more I think about it though...DVC at the GF would really be surprising! It would definately be cool...but suprising! Like you said too though...if they can make money on it there is a plan for it!::thumbsup2

Honestly, probably at some point.

I just can not even imagine what adding DVC will do to that pool. They will have to stop pool hopping and those using the parking lot all day.

It will be chaos if they don't.

I think if they build it, it will go in the parking lot and parking will be moved across the street into the MK parking lot area for CM. That lot would not be any further out than BW or GF.

I don't think the Poly is really an option for the DVC. There just no where to build a DVC wing and quiet pool. And like other's have posted, the Poly is a cash cow for Disney. So why would they tear down cash rooms to build DVC villas? Once those DVC villas are sold they do not provide regular income for Disney like hotel rooms do.

They can build it in the parking lot, they did the BCVs. Also there is enough room to build a DVC wing similar to VWL where Luau Cove is.

Never underestimate Disney's desire or ability to make more money. If Disney thinks they will come, they will build it. I think DVC has done better at deluxe resorts closer to the parks (not that SSR or OKW are failures) and will stick to that blue print. I would not at all be surprised if the next DVC resort were at the Poly.

I believe that Disney will do it if they feel they can. The DVC membership is for what, 50 years? In the eyes of Disney, that is not long. So they generate revenue selling DVC shares and then assume full control in 50 years. I wouldn't be surprised to see a DVC go up at the Poly, GF, and even another at the Contemporary on the other side of BLT. At least, that would be my hope for the future.

I think of the two, GF and Polynesian, GF will be first over the Polynesian.

I truly believe that Disney plans to eventually have a DVC segment in EVERY deluxe resort....that only leaves two. These are probably the most economicaly challenging, but they aren't out of the realms of imagination. Maybe if the Ft Wilderness DVC expansion is right, one of these could end up being the next to go.

As for taking cash rooms out, actually think about the fact that they are making rooms that will bring in more money per night. A DVC villa at Poly would be quite a money maker.....

I hope so. Even though DW and DS15 are "Disneyed out" after visiting three times in the last year and want a break (she wants Italy, he just wants to stay in front of XBOX Halo Reach which he got yesterday), it is the one resort I would add on for points because frankly, I would go there alone to enjoy it. :cool1:

There are some resorts that I dont care to own, and some that I do. Poly and GF are both ones I would own, if they ever came up for sale. Right now though, with AKL, SSR, BLT and Aulani still in a sales stage, and National Harbor and the Fort Wilderness areas with rumors galore, I think Disney has a few million points to sell before we get to these options.
