I have the iPhone 4 and am waiting on the new phone before upgrading.![]()
That makes two of us.![]()
Verizon iPhones do not work in Europe...only AT&T iPhones work in Europe.
Verizon uses CDMA technology and almost all of Europe uses GSM technology...which is what AT&T uses.

I wonder if they'll let me keep my unlimited plan. I'd hate to lose that!
I'm thinking there will be new models this summer. That's what I'm waiting for on my phones. Right now we have a iPhone 4 (not GS) and will be eligible for an upgrade in a few months. So my plan is to hold off on the upgrade until the new model is announced.
However, the 4S is, from what I understand, a "world phone." That means it has both CDMA and GSM chipsets in it. So, at least in theory, it should be able to work in a GSM area (although you would have to buy a sim card).
I recently dreamed about the bill I received after using my iPhone in Italy.
I think I'm preparing for iPhone withdrawal.
The folks that were with us in England, France and Italy (within the last 4 months) were not able to get phone service through Verizon.
I dont know if any of them had 4S phones.
I had the iPhone 4 via AT&T. And before I left for England, I bought a nice big ol' international data package. And I was able to tweak it after I got back without any problems since I was well within my billing period. It worked great.![]()
I think my impatience is going to win...I'm leaning towards the 4S. I'm with AT&T, and when I got my 3GS, they only had one data plan -$30 per month. When my DS got his iPhone 4, they had two plans (I think he got the $25 one), but neither was unlimited. I wonder if they'll let me keep my unlimited plan. I'd hate to lose that!
If you currently have an unlimited data plan with AT&T, you can keep it when you upgrade your phone. However, new users are not given that as an option. (AT&T no longer offers it, but they've "grandfathered" it for pre-existing users.) Also, if you decide to not keep the unlimited data plan when you upgrade, you cannot get it back if you change your mind later.
