Do you think the days of cheap airfares are over

I was just looking at Webjet's International Deal Finder and airfares are almost back to the pre VAustralia days of $1500 to $2400 to the USA.

With the rise in fuel, the airlines are either increasing their airfares (e.g. Air NZ) or their fuel surcharges (e.g. QF) to cover it.

I started planning this trip with a budget of $1500pp for airfares. I wasnt planning on telling my children until I could be sure I would get these fares, but bit the bullet and told them at christmas.

I think I was extremely lucky to jump on the Qantas Dallas flights when they were first announced. Got our flights for $1250 and am very grateful,:worship: I havent seen them near $1500 for the dates we want. Although to be fair, we have made the difference in currency conversion!

qantas has announced that they are increasing their fuel surcharge, but they just this week finished another "global sale" deal. Prices always fluctuate depending on dates, demand, and the level of competition for the route. I think you will continue to see discounts for LAX flights and you need to be prepared to fly at the non-popular times.

I don't think so at all. The thing that has happened is that the sales have become more often and dramatic since V Australia and Delta decided to join the route. But it isn't a "sale" if it is on almost constantly.

I think it is also important to remember that BARGAIN flights in 2000 were the $999 back fill fares during the Sydney Olympics. So considering where typical and sale fare prices were back then even $1500 is pretty cheap.

I'm not saying I want to pay more :lmao: However I think the 'number' of sales will decrease.
I think it is also important to remember is that other than the Qantas promo to Dallas, the airlines usually leading the charge with discount prices are United and Air NZ, and now Delta. THESE are the airlines keeping Qantas in check.

While there are excessive airlines flying the route though I think there will still be sale fares under $1300.

Qantas just had a companion fare sale which finished last week. I managed to get tickets at just over half price for Melb to LA.

Always sales going on just have to be ready as they are short lived.

Sales usually come out around or just after Easter school holidays. This time of year is traditionally RRP time. I believe that we should see some discounting again in a couple of weeks; but it remains to be seen what the price point will be.

I'm sure sales will come and go, you just have to keep a pretty close watch on things. They may not be as regular as the past few years but they will still be there at times.
