Do you think it's unprofessional to call women at work 'woman'

like 'Hey, woman, I'm talking to you", etc????

When used that way, it seems derogatory.

When used in that context, I think it's rude anywhere (work or otherwise)! If it were me, it would probably be met with "Hey A**H***, I'm ignoring you!" (Can you tell I'm not in the best of moods this morning???)

uh, YES!

even if i wasn't at work, if someone referred to me that way, I'd probably respond like seashelley.

I guess it depends on the situation.

If it's done between co-workers, girlfriends, or even family members, I wouldn't be offended in anyway because I know how to dish it right back.

I guess I have pretty thick skin, because what offends many DIS members here, does not offend me.

Maybe it's a regional thing, I don't know.

While I would certainly prefer a hearty "Yo wench, I'm talking to you", I would answer to "Hey woman".

I agree with SeaShelley. Ooo...reminds me of the phrases "my ol' man" and "my ol' lady". Blech!

It would depend on my relationship witht he person who was saying it. If they were teasing me, and I knew it, then it wouldn't bother me.You know how you goof around at work sometimes, right?

But, if it were someone I had a more formal, work type relationship with and they started that baloney, they'd hear about it real quick!!!!!

I'm with Disney Doll. My best friend at work (and outside of work) and I call each other "woman," but if someone I have professional, work relationship with called me that it would frost me. If it was someone I didn't even like I'd probably respond like SeaShelley.

No Spago, I wouldn't do that either. I'd address them by name or something to the effect of "Excuse me, I'm talking to you."

Depending on who called me that. I'm not really sensative to being called woman at all, but if a total stranger called me that I might be bothered by that. The majority of the time, I wouldn't be bothered by it and as long as no one was trying to be derogitory I wouldn't mind hearing it (I know I hear it here often).

no spago, i don't refer to anyone as man.

i say "oh man!" a lot, but that's not refering to any man in particular. :p

I would not like some saying "hey woman" to me, especialy at work. I agree with SeaShelley, a polite "Excuse me" never offends.

would be offended by what goes on in MY office! But we are all very laid back.

now that i think about it, the level of familiarity which is necessary to call a co-woker "man" would probably be the same level that's required to call someone "woman" so i guess it's not a valid argument.

lol did that make sense.
