Do you think its unhygenic to keep reading material in the toilet/bathroom?

My Mum brought us up to never put any reading matter in there, but did I listen to her advice once I moved into my own place

...nope...!

Seems more and more of my relatives have a small stack of reading material in their bathrooms too nowadays.

That reminds me of that episode of Seinfeld where George took a book into the bathroom at a store and the book was "flagged" as having been in a bathroom. :rotfl:

My parents always had reading material in the bathroom but kept it in a drawer or cabinet - not out in the open. My friend's parents had a magazine rack on the wall of their bathroom right across from the toilet.

Un-hygenic or not, our downstairs powder room looks like a cross between the suburban branch of the public library and the junk mail/catalog/magazine sorting room of the post office.
I myself am guilty of partaking of the 'reading room' atmosphere on occasion, but I am forever nagging the others to thin out the collection a bit when the stack starts falling over at my feet.
Most popular item is Readers Digest - the articles are just the right length for the typical visit (excluding the book section of course). But even the Unofficial Guide makes its way in there when we are in trip planning mode. :thumbsup2

It might be, slightly. Doesn't stop me, though.

I mean I keep my hairbrush, towels, etc in there, too. Just make sure to wash your hands often and you're fine.

We don't but not for hygiene reasons. I'm just never in there long enough to read anything

I keep a magazine or two in my bathroom. Hasn't killed us yet. The toilet paper must be really germy if you want to think about it, but yet we wipe with it, right?

It might be but then again so are the towels, tooth brushes, combs, makeup, shampoo bottles etc.

we never put reading material in the bathrooms. We are get up and go people!:rotfl:

But my uncle kept "girly" magazines right by the toilet.:scared1:

really? Interesting.... I usually sit to go.

in our house reading material is for residents only. It is (supposed to be) hidden when guests pop in. Hehehehehe

I could never understand why my mother read in the bathroom. 2 kids later and now I know.

My mother-in-law once made a comment about our magazines in the bathroom. I told her I thought that it was worse that she talks on her cellphone in the bathroom.
She made me think of those people who say they won't take baths because they are in their own filth, but yet they will swim in the ocean, lakes, or community swimming pool.

I don't keep reading material in my bathroom but its just because I don't want my bathroom cluttered with stuff sitting out.
However when I use other's and there is reading material readily available I wouldn't touch it

Hmmm, I keep a small devotional book in the bathroom drawer for my perusal a couple times a day. Do you think God is offended?:upsidedow

Only if you were using it for any other purpose but reading :rolleyes1

I always said if it hit it big, the first thing I'd do is have bookcases installed in the bathroom. That's where most of my reading and puzzling (search a words) get done! It truly is my own little sanctuary.

And FWIW, I'm not too worried about it being unhygenic -- you keep your toothbrush in there, don't you?

Unhygienic or not, I've always kept reading material in the bathroom. We always had magazines in the bathroom when I was growing up too. Even as a child, Reader's Digest was a favorite.

My father used to keep reading material in the outhouse at our camp. I don't read in the outhouse as I get out as quickly as possible!

:lmao:This sounds like my bathroom I keep trying to clean it up, but it always has stacks of reading material.

I have no problem with reading material in the bathroom. My dh takes books or mags in there but they aren't kept in the bathroom. I dont read while Im in there. I have a 3 year old who entertains me enough. *sigh*
