Do you think its safe...

We take out kids there all the time. In fact they ask to go into the city. This past week I ventured in alone with 4 girls ages 6-9 I don't know what I was thinking:dance3: But it wasn't that I didn't feel safe, I was feeling outnumbered.:rolleyes1

There are a lot of hotel rooms in NYC. You might be able to get a reasonable rate and not have to do the commute from The Meadowlands. By the time you add what you pay there and what the bus will cost, it may not be a big difference. Check some of the lesser known hotels. I don't know when you are planning to go and what the rates will be, but we once found a very reasonable room at the Hotel Lucerne right near the Museum of Natural History. It was a nice hotel and the room was very comfortable.

I grew up on Long Island and lived in the NY Metro area until a year and a half ago. It is a great place to take a child, because there is a lot to do.

So you would not stay in the Meadowlands? We would be driving in and don't want to be driving around a city we don't know that well. The hotel says they offer a shuttle to the city..:confused3 any advice?

Once you get to the hotel, park the car and use public transportation(buses, subway, ferries) to get around.

My daughter was born in Manhattan, and we own an apartment on the Upper West Side that we actually live in part of the year!!! The horror!!!:scared1:

Seriously...yes, it's safe for children...

I was just going to post that there are thousands of children who LIVE there, safely, all the time! :lmao:

We take my nieces for "Girls' Day" from time to time. Along with Broadway shows, Toys R Us, Hershey World, the new M&M World, there's also their fave - the American Girl Place store. You could spend a whole day there, have lunch or tea and the show (which I did not care for - JMHO). I do recommend "Wicked." It was even better the 2nd time I saw it. I'd just hang onto their hands in the crowded streets, especially in the busy Times Square area, so you do not get separated, especially if the sights catch their interest. It's such fun!

Didn't mean to offend any one on it not being safe. Sorry. Just new to us thats all. And scared that navigation with a small child in a Big city would be unsafe if we hadn't had a feel for the city before alone as adults.

It's always good to do some research before you travel. Your question was not out of line at all. In fact there is so much to do and see in the city it's better to have a game plan when visiting. You'll have a lot of fun.

Yes, I've been taking my 7yo in since she was 3. She knows how to hail a cab with the best of them! :lmao: You'll do a lot of walking, so wear comfortable shoes. I wouldn't stay in NJ, I'd stay right in the city. Once in the city, you won't drive, you'll use buses, subways, or just walk. I find that generally, if it's under a mile, it's faster to just walk. Check out radiocity.com. They do quite a few kids shows. I believe Dora/Diego is coming in the spring.

Of course it's safe. You just have to pay attention to your children, just like in any other part of the country. I've lived in NYC all my life and I survived childhood!
