Do you think it's ok for me to do this?

I will start by saying that I am not one of those guests that makes 5 ressies for 1 dinner so that I can decide which place to eat that afternoon....
My situation is that I am on a waiting list to move from the Animal Kingdom Lodge to the Beach Club for the first night of our trip in October.
At this point it is less likely that I will get my waitlist request.
I have an ADR in place for dinner at AKL that night. BUT..what if I get my waitlist? I'm not going to want to take the bus to a theme park and then transfer to AKL - just to have dinner. I know we're not supposed to double book...eben the system no longer allows it....
but do you think it's ok to make a back up ressie at one of the boardwalk
restaurants....knowing that I will cancel the one I don't need at least 7 days before (I don't think they extend the waitlist beyond that)....I can just make a ressie under my DH or mom's name.....

yes so long as you do cancel the ADR you won't be using. If this is a dvc waitlist I believe they're cancelled 30day in advance if not filled (?) so that would be a good time to cancel the un-usable adr.
YMMV

If you are talking about restaurants on the Boardwalk, besides Flying Fish, I don't think you really need an ADR. Big River Grille and ESPN Club don't take reservations and I have never seen Kouzzina to be all that crowded to really need an ADR (a family of 4 could get an ADR for 5:25 or 6:10 tonight). In the area as a whole, you might need ADR's for Flying Fish, Yachtsman and Cape May, but besides that you should be pretty clear at the EC resort areas.

The waitlist will expire at 31 days out...unless you call by day 32 to request that you remain on the list....which I have done. If I still have no gotten the waitlist resort by 7 days out, it will expire permanently and we will ust have to pack up on Sunday morning and have bell services move us over to the Beach Club...not the end of the world.
I was planning on Cape May or Flying Fish if I am spending the first night at Beach Club...so, I would be more comfortable with an ADR.
I think I'll go ahead and make one for Cape May and if we don't get our waitlist by a week before, I'll cancel it. If we do get the waitlist, I'll cancel the Sanaa that we currently have....
