Do you think it would be cheaper to buy/carry our own snorkel gear? Suggest a brand.

Hi:
It grosses me out thinking of using/renting someone else's snorkel equipment when we go to the Caribbean. Can anyone suggest a good brand? I know we want a dry snorkel. I'm also not sure what size to get my 11 year old son. Would a junior be too small? His face is small but he has good size feet -- 5. I'm afraid juniors would fit fine in the face but adult would be too big.

Thanks for any help.

Michelle

I wouldn't use the "free" snorkel stuff either. I've seen where it's kept and how its cleaned(or not) too many times:scared1:

We love the dry snorkel and that is all we have. Regarding your son, I think and adult size would fit him fine, snorkel and mask. Our 13 y/o daughter who is very thin has used an adult size snorkel she was 10. We like the oceanic brand dri snorkel.
Regarding masks, if you have a dive shop or sporting goods store near you, I would go in an try some on to see how they fit the face. Depending on the size of his face he may need a jr. sz over an adult. Once you have the correct size, you can search online as it's usually cheaper to order that way.

Good luck and I wish I was going with you!!!

I usually get the snorkel/mask sets at Sports Authority. Brand is Body Glove or US Divers. We have used both and they are fine. SA usually has coupons so get one before you go. Look in entertainment book or kidstuff book. They are priced at about $30 a set.

http://www.sportsauthority.com/prod...307138&cp=12635654.12674255&parentPage=family This one is $40 but shop around, I usually paid about $25 or $30.

Don't bother with the fins, you usually only need them if there is a current, otherwise it's easier to snorkel with a fun noodle.

Just rinse them after use and store out of the sunlight and they will last for several years.

I bought my own atSports Authority for $30 and used mine 4 times. never regretted it. We went Snorkeling in Marathon in the Keys and my kids all in their 20's were laughing at me, but they were not laughing when I was the only one not having problems.
