Do you take your kids out of school to go to DW?

We are taking our DS son out of 2nd grade for 3 days. We planned it around the teachers convention here in New Jersey. My own personnel opinion is that if that the only time you can do it, then take them out.
Otherwise, people need to take it on a "case-by-case" situation, and you need to know if your child is someone that can make the work up, pirate: otherwise, just wait till there is official time off from school

we have taken our dd out for a week in 3rd & 4th grades, next year in 6th we will take her out a week to go --our school gives the work before you leave and it is all due the day you come back to school, as long as we give 2 weeks notice the teachers have always said go have a fun trip, wish i could go too!

My parents used to take me out of school for 2 weeks to go to WDW every year. I remember doing this from k all the way through 11th grade. My parents always spoke with my teachers before the trip (like at p/t conferences) to let them know that we were going, and when. They would ask for my homework for that time to be given to me the week before we left. we would then copy the necessary pages out of textbooks/workbooks, etc and I would have a folder for each subject that would come with me on the trip. I would usually start working on the homework as soon as I got it, on the plane, etc. I had to spend 1 hour each day (whenever I wanted) on homework until it was done. A lot of people say that they don't think their kids should have to do homework while they're on vacation but my parents didn't think that 1 hour a day was a big deal. I never fell behind in school and always went back feeling like I was up to speed with everyone else...sometimes ahead! Sometimes, what the teachers anticipated getting done in that time, didn't happen and I'd have work done that wasnt due yet! Most teachers didn't have a problem with me being out for 2 weeks. I was always a good student and never fell behind.
