We only use hotel soap for handwashing, because we bring our own soap (Coast!) for bathing. However, as much as I hate hotel soap, I feel complelled to take it home. (It's a sickness.

DH just  )

Where can I donate them? Do you think a Food Bank will take them? I've been meaning to give them a call, but decided to check here for other suggestions.

While I was looking online for suggestions, I found this and thought I'd share.

Snopes says it never happened, but I think it's funny, and a good example of the frustrations of communication...or lack thereof!

I'm pretty sure that Crossroads RI would take them. They're located in the former YMCA building in Providence.

Yes, I'll admit, we take them too. DH brings 'em home from his business trips and gives 'em to our kids as special treats.

I collect them (and ask others to collect them) and give them to our merchandise guy with our vintage racing club. He has an arrangement with a women's shelter to donate them for women and children who come to the shelter. It provides them with a little care package to clean up and feel a little better. You might try contacting some community organizations to see if anyone can help you arrange to donate to a local shelter.

I grab up the toiletry supply each night in my hotel room, so they'll keep supplying more each day and I can get the maximum number of items for donation! It's fun and it's for a good cause!

Have you thought about donating them to a homeless shelter?

Depends on the quality. One hotel I stayed had Aveda products. I snatched those little suckers up everyday. The last hotel I stayed at had nail files and I took those too, to keep in my purse. I've also taken a travel sewing kit that stays in my travel bag.

When I used to travel a ton for business, I always accumulated a box full of toiletries from various hotels. Like others have mentioned, either a women's shelter or homeless shelter would gladly accept them. :)

I take them and I use them. :teeth:

I know there are charities out there that collect these and give them out to hospitalized children, just can't remember any of the names.

That is a RIOT! I love it!!

I don't use the soap when I am there either. I only take them with me, if they say the name of the place I am staying or are particularly cute- and that way they are a souviner.

Yes, I do and I never use any of it. I take the soaps, shampoos, conditioners, mouthwashs, hand/body lotions, toothbrushes, shoe polish kits, sewing kits, coffee/tea packs, and anything else that's not nailed down. :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I take them on a daily basis so they're always replenished. My husband travels a lot and it kills me when leaves this stuff behind. He usually doesn't remember or think about taking it.

Every year, in early December, I take a big box of all my hotel collectibles and give them to my mother's church group. The group decorates little baskets, fills them with the toiletries, along with other items, and gives them to local women's shelters and homeless shelters. :)

:thumbsup2 our church collects soap and sends it to Haiti for a mission team of Dr. and nurses to hand out. :grouphug:

 I only took two from our last Disney trip. Since I am decorating my bathroom with Mickey Mouse things I needed some bars of soap. :rotfl2:

Only once, and it was because it was the same brand I happen to use! Otherwise I don't bother because I NEED my normal shampoo (Pantine, it really does keep my hair looking better!).

I do "steal" the shower caps and hand lotion, though! Oh, and when in Seattle, I stocked up on the packets of Starbucks Coffee!

We take them too. We use them when we go camping. They are real handy because the campgrounds have those individual showers so its easier then lugging full size stuff or refilling little bottles. Plus everyone can have there own little bar of soap/shampoo bottle.

One year my sister in law gave us a lovely basket for Christmas made up of all those little hotel goodies, all the way down to the plastic shower cap. :rolleyes2

Sad thing is, that's what she gave her parents too.

Now there is a gift that really says how the giftgiver thinks of the receiver - I travel and you get my freebies!!!!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

:rolleyes1 Guilty as charged, I take it the soaps, lotions, nail files, mouthwash, toothbrushes and toothpaste, etc, etc, etc. We have quite a collection of it at home but I love to use them in the guest bathroom and when we go camping.

I love my little ::MickeyMo soaps and shampoos from WDW. :earsboy:

I take whatever I get my grubby little paws on and donate to a local women's or homeless shelter. It's really nice to be able to give someone in need a small baggie of nice toiletry items when they arrive. It's little things that can make a big difference for someone who is having difficulty in their life.

Better than what my mom's sister gave her one Christmas (this was when my mom smoked). Dear Aunt F. collected matchbooks from various hotels and restaurants during her travels and dumped them in a shoebox, tied a used ribbon around it and gave it to mom. :rolleyes2 There were other similarly touching gifts from Aunt F. but this one took the cake, so to speak.
