Do you take much food with you to WDW?

I took those liquid tabs for the washing last time, because I remember I never had enough quarters and it was just one less hassle and it worked out cheaper ;-)

We don't take anything but we always have a car and visit Publix or Walmart ASAP, buy a jar of coffee and a few bits, including a large bottle of vodka:goodvibes, Smirnoff, any flavour you can think of £7/litre:thumbsup2

Ha, I like your thinking on the vodka ;)

I must confess - we do buy a big old 4 litre bottle of Merlot to put in our Disney mugs!!

I hope that mug doesn't go around the parks with you - hic ;)

Great idea - was thinking those liqui tab things for both washer and likes for dishwasher too. Much easier than powder (and less likely to grab customs attention :lmao:).

Yes, it's a bind taking this stuff but tbh, it all goes while you are away (or you bin it), so more room for goodies/souvenirs on the way back - winner all round :woohoo:.

I like a vodka or three. Tonight I have just finished a bottle of Smirnoff Apple, now starting my favourite, Absolut Mango:cloud9::drinking1

Far more choice in Florida than we get around here:

I haven't been a vodka drinker since my late teens/early twenties but I'd be persuaded to try a few of those flavours :thumbsup2

Actually wondering if a taxi trip to the nearest supermarket might be the best bet for us to grab a few essentials... ::yes::

All we take is tea bags - we love stopping for breakfast or buying pop tarts for the room

If you drink spirits they at least half price offsite compared to Disney. Although its same with most things, IIRC a 2L bottle of Coke is around $3.50 in the Disney resorts shops, Walmart we paid $1.33 last year. Graden Grocer can be an ption for some things but still expensive compared to a supermarket and limited products.
For Vodka we find Wagreens Liqor store about the cheapest (thats where pic was taken) register for their discount card instore to getthe lowerer discounted price, all you need is a local phone number to register (we have a US mobile number but you can use your hotel number) discounted price for 1.75L of vodka was $17.99+ tax = £11.61 = £6.64/L, about a third of UK price.

the only thing I take nowadays are a couple of 2 in 1 tablets for the washing machine. We only do one wash half way through the holiday so I take about 4 with me!
Used to take teabags but find we no longer really want tea while on holiday. Everything else we just buy there. We rarely hire a car so just catch the lynx bus to walmart from the TTC, it really doesn't take long. We also walk across to the Hess garage at DTD, but as we are normally on free dining we just don't need to buy much at all.:)

Great prices - well worth the extra to do this if staying a while I think. I can't see us drinking much in the way of alcohol although I'm partial to the odd Disney cocktail. I'll mention Wagreens to DH though :thumbsup2

That's another option which sounds quite do-able - get the Lynx bus from TTC. Does it take long? The thing is when you first arrive (esp first trip) the last thing you want to do is break away and go to a supermarket but it does sound beneficial.

I'm making a list of bits to take from this thread - very useful :goodvibes.

You need to plan the timing well to make it quick. But its about a 20 min bus ride there and back and it stops right outside. But tbh we make a day of it and spend AGES in there:goodvibes It maybe worth your while to maybe catch a taxi but then you might as well use the Garden Grocer if you do that, its swings and roundabouts really. Going to Walmart is actually planned into our holiday like the theme parks are...we LOVE it and I have a huge list of things to buy:rotfl:

I can see the attraction of having a good nosey around. But I think I'd prefer it further into my holiday. Like most, when we get there, the kids especially, just want to hit the parks or pool etc depending on where we are :cool1:.

exactly..thats why maybe just go for the garden grocer and have it ready for you when you arrive so as not to waste time. It's sorted and done then and you can unpack your suitcases and shopping at the same time:goodvibes We have been so many times now we don't feel the need to try and do everything each time and therefore have time for Walmart...I can't tell you how long my shopping list is:rotfl:

We have taken tea bags too as DH is also fussy about his tea, but I didn't realise you had to declare them! I've never had a problem on our three previous visits but I will make sure I read and tick properly on the form next time.

Last time I also took some soap powder (enough for three or four washes) something I hadn't done before, but a friend mentioned doing it. I have to say it was worthwhile! Our room was close to the laundry anyway, so no problem to put a wash in (roughly a 1/2 hour cycle) and go back to put it in the dryer while relaxing by the pool :) I did a wash the day before we were due home and it was great to arrive home and just put stuff away.

Queendisney, I'm glad I'm not the only one! :) my sister and I love going to Walmart, we always go a few times each trip. It's a definite 'must do' for us!! We have had so many bargains from kitchen equipment to fishing rods and of course the Disney souvenirs are a fraction of the cost too.

DLPDreams, will you be staying on site? if so it's easy to take a taxi (there's usually some out front of hotel) to Walmart and if you are unsure about calling a taxi back to your hotel ask the driver to return for you - but make it a few hours later, it's easy to lose track of time ;)

I liked the idea of Garden Grocer, but with a $40 minimum order plus $14 for delivery, it's a bit steep. Can't justify the money for two of us for a week when we're on the DDP. Think I'll be sticking with free cups of water and bringing a few cereal bars/teabags with us.

Just nip across to the Hess garage when you're at DTD for your bottles of water. We have done that a few times. Can't stand the Dasani water they have at WDW. You can ask for free water from CS restaurants as well which is way nicer then the water fountains in the parks. Another thing we buy from Walmart are the sachets of lemonade powder to put in our water:)

I had a similar question when we went with the DDP. We definitely didn't need any food. We asked for water/orange juice with some CS meals and took that back to the room, same with some of the desserts - we just kept them in the fridge.

We struggled to use all of our credits and I'm glad we didn't bother with a Garden Grocer order.:thumbsup2

I wouldn't take anything - never have. We like a trip to Publix - get some basics so we aren't bothering with having to sort breakfast etc. and also get to try some new snacks - we normally see them on the UK shelves a few years later!

Yeah - I've looked at GG and the $40 min spend is an issue for us - I just wanted a few bits and it won't be that much. I'd also read that you have to be present for the delivery and it's a 2 hour slot. Think we'll give it a miss this trip.

I'll just take a few dry bits from home - breakfast biscuits and cereal bars maybe just for first thing in the morning. They are so easy just to eat on the bus on the way to the parks.

I too am thinking of doing a bit of washing while there - it does save a bit on the laundry extravaganza on return doesn't it! I don't normally bother, but I think if we go for 3 weeks, it might be a help ::yes::.

I am sure we can pool the odd CS drink and buy a few bottles of water at Hess if need be. And possibly even desserts too. Even if onsite it is more expensive, it still appears cheaper than UK prices :lmao:.

Piglet - hoping to stay at the OKW for 2, possibly 3 weeks. We may move offsite to a villa for the third week. Depends on prices really.

It certainly does - and also means your souvenirs are wrapped in clean clothes :lmao:

If you at okw in a one bed or two bed villa washing powder is supplied as you have washer in the rooms :-)
