Do you take much food with you to WDW?

Is there anything you take every time you go? Does anyone bother taking teabags / coffee etc? Or perhaps snacks?

I wonder how necessary it is if you are on the DDP? My biggest concern is we won't want to be stopping for breakfast every day (will do a few character breakfasts but that's it). So, I'd like something to keep us going until we get a snack (or QS) a bit later in the morning or lunchtime.

I was thinking breakfast biscuits and those snack packs of cereal (can buy milk there). I don't know how worth it would be to do that? I would also like fresh fruit - bananas etc for the girls but don't think I can take those in from the UK. So, will have to try and buy onsite.

Are there any food items you just have to take with you? :goodvibes.

We had the same concern last year, I was very aware of bringing any food into the US and chose not to bring anything even tea bags.
Instead I ordered water, milk, cereal, tea bags (which were pg tips)and snacks from the garden grocer as we didn't have car hire and it was delivered to our room.
So it meant that some mornings we just had cereal in the room and used out counter service credit on lunch later in the day.

I don't take anyone, but we normally call at a Publix / Target after landing to pick up a few supplies. If you are on site you could go to the Hess gas station and pick up some things (they are cheaper than the shops at the resort hotels) and are at the Boardwalk entrance, across from DTD and there is one near the MK car care centre on the way out but this would probably the most difficult to get to without a car. Some of the resorts have a better selection of food, especially if it is a DVC resort :)

We were on ddp and still brought sweets, crisps, fruit flakes and cereal bars for the kids as some mornings we would head to a park for 8 and not be having a character breakfast till 9:30 so a cereal bar would tide them over, all packed in our suit cases. We did leave a lot of sweets when we left tho!

If you have the DDP then it's not really necessary in my opinion. I used to take a few breakfast items but we never ate them and it just meant going through the extra screening at customs. Now I order bottled water and some of our favorite American snacks but I do so online so we don't have to hassle with declaring.

If you aren't on the DDP of any sort then it would however make sense to take some dry food. Just remember no fruit and don't forget to declare anything and everything you do take with you.

Thanks for that - at least I know I am not that mad considering this. :)

My main concern is I know they can be funny about you bringing in food items at the airport - it would be breakfast biscuits/cereal bars/dry cereals and possibly tea bags/coffee bag (the refill bag type). And possibly a few sweets/mints etc for the room.

I am reading more about Garden Grocer but where would I order and find out about them? I really would only want basics so I can't see it being cost effective if they are going to charge a large delivery fee - probably easier to get onsite if that's the case.

We definitely won't have a car until at least the second week (poss the last week, third week) so no access offsite (well, not without hassle).

We always take 2 boxes of cereal, breakfast muffins, jam, tea, coffee and digestives.

USA are fine about you taking permissible items they just ask you to declare them.

Tick the food box on the customs from and tell them what you have, it isn't an issue as long as it's not fruit/meat/soft cheese or other things that are banned.

We take biscuits on the plane to snack and then take a few into the parks each day with us to snack on, even though we are on the DDP sometimes a digestive is all you need to tide you over to dinner and you would waste a snack credit.

A couple of bars of Galaxy chocolate:)

A woman after my own heart :lovestruc. Although it would be dairy milk as my choice ;). Better still, chocolate eclairs which don't get affected by the heat so much.... :lmao:

I do think 'dry' bits of breakfast would be useful. Will look into ordering and delivering or taking over with us. Oh, and some fruit bars or fruit flakes (packet types) would be good too. I am concerned about the girls getting their fresh veg/fruit quota :rolleyes2.

Have noted to tick whatever items I have at customs ::yes::.

I take breakfast items for the kids that I know they like such as cereal bars, selection pack of cereal etc as we usually have breakfast at villa/hotel and my kids are quite fussy.
I also take tea bags and I like the nescafe cappuccino sachets, so I take some of them and some disposable coffee cups and every morning make myself a cappuccino for the journey to a park. Then I can sit and wait and drink my cappuccino with paying $4 or waiting in a q!

We always take tea bags to the USA as DH is fussy about his cup of tea

And Cadbury's chocolate (made the mistake of trying a Hershey bar once ):rolleyes1:

We take a ton of food with us but none of it is for us :rotfl:

We always have about 600 tea bags and a couple of Kgs of chocolate :rolleyes1

Always tick the yes box on the customs form to food and declare it and never have a problem :thumbsup2

With the DDP I wouldn't get large amounts of food for your room - the OKW shop sells cereal & milk.

As for fruit & veg - I always get DD fruit as her dessert for her CS meal at lunch. The kids meals always have grapes or apple slices as an option. Adults can usually get fruit of some sort too.

Beside 3 weeks isn't going to kill them if they don't get "5 a day" - I am happy as long as DD has one good portion as it's her holiday too :goodvibes

We have bought cereal and milk whilst out there before - but quite often we have kept the dessert option and put it in the fridge to eat the next day.

In terms of bringing things from the UK - my DD has packed her Earl Grey & Vanilla teabags other than that we have never found the need to bring stuff with us.

You can register on Garden Grocer at home, do your order and check out before you leave. I remember having several questions fit them and they replied really quick. Found them super efficient.
We used GG mainly for water, breakfast things and snacks for taking home.

We take tea, coffee, salt, pepper, salad cream, washing powder, fabric softener and dishwashers tabs and always declare it with no problems. We also either do a garden grocer or take a car to Walmart.

This is really useful - thanks :thumbsup2

Of course, hadn't thought about washing stuff as if we do stay at OKW we'll have a washer/dryer and while I don't want to be doing too much laundry on holiday, sometimes it's a must and is easier! I know you can buy this stuff over there but it's easier to take a small amount with you, ready just in case.

Elise - I am not too worried about them getting 5 a day, but DD2 in particular tends to get a bit 'irregular' if she doesn't get a good portion (sorry if TMI). While I don't worry for a week or so, going for 3 weeks could begin to be a problem iyswim :headache:. I will definitely get fruit for their QS and then bribe them with a 'sweet' snack/ice cream using their credits at another point in the day ;).

ChipnDale - definitely going to check out GG :thumbsup2.

jb - I'm with you on the hersheys - the first time I tasted it in the US, I thought it was 'off' :lmao:.

We don't take anything but we always have a car and visit Publix or Walmart ASAP, buy a jar of coffee and a few bits, including a large bottle of vodka:goodvibes, Smirnoff, any flavour you can think of £7/litre:thumbsup2

I must confess - we do buy a big old 4 litre bottle of Merlot to put in our Disney mugs!!
