Do you stay in during your days leading up to your trip?

We have t-minus 5 days until our trip. Needless to say I'm worried about any one of us getting sick. My daughter went to a party yesterday and I'm not sure if that'll be her last outing until we fly out on Friday. My son goes to recreation during the week from 9-12 and I'm debating sending him. I'm looking for advice-I'm probably being to crazy not sending him right? They can't live in a bubble (although it would be nice!) What do you do? Thanks!!'

My husband wants us to, but it's just not practical. Most of our trips have been Jan or Feb, so prime flu season. We probably are more vigilant about hand-washing a couple weeks before our trip, but we don't alter any activities. I told DH that if we are completely "germ free" in the weeks before our trip, our immune system will get lazy. Then the first germ we encounter at WDW will take us down for the count. ;)

No, we don't. My husband is a flight paramedic, he is in close quarters with sick people, and in and out of hospitals. I work in a school with kids from age 4 to high school seniors. It never occurred me to stay home or keep the kids home before a trip.

I can't, I took the Sunday before we leave off for packing purposes but that's it for me. I'm a cake decorator and November is still quite busy on Saturdays with weddings.

I avoid birthday parties or jump party houses or any place that happens to have a lot of "new" germs outside the kids normal exposure. I've had my little one throw up on the bus ride on the magical express as we LEFT Disney World I am glad it wasn't on the way there, so I expect my kids may get sick FROM Disney World! I think its smart to avoid it before hand if you know your kids get sick easily. Anytime my sister and her kids/fam takes a trip and if she knows any of us have any slight sickness she won't come near us the week before :)

We went Christmas 2011 and there was the stomach bug was going around plus the flu and we limited our exposure before we left.

I never even thought of such a thing! But I guess I've never worried too much about it. My kids have always been pretty healthy and we never avoided kids' play areas or shopping or any number of other things where there's a lot of exposure. In fact, my boys are coming back from a week at overnight Scout camp and we leave three days later for Disney!

We avoid germ factory's like chuckie cheeses and malls but to be honest we usually remember a thing or two we've forgotten and have to tun to target. Wash and sanitize your hands like a crazy person!

Uugghhh I don't blame you!!!! Two years ago a friend of mine asked us to go to the park with them two days before we left for Disney. Wasn't going to go, but of course the kids wanted to go. As Julia Roberts said... 'Big mistake - Huge!' Lol That first night my daughter had a 104 fever and vomited all over the living room of our hotel -twice. Immediate center twice for her. Followed by my son with a 104 fever and tonsillitis!!! I Swore after that, there's no where we need to go right before vacation!!!! Good luck deciding... and if you do need to go out, keep antibacterial hand sanitizer with you!! Enjoy your trip!!

we've been in all summer but not in fear of getting sick.. because I'm not trying to spend any money lol. I thought that's what this post was about but thanks for the new worry. We're going in Nov.. the start of cold season lol.

I wouldn't keep my kids from doing their normal 'things' before our trip in an attempt to keep them healthy. I would just do our normal things and be a little extra vigilant about handwashing, etc.

We didn't avoid anything (in fact I brought my kids to Chuck E Cheese 3 days before we left LOL which I later regretted because one of my boys ended up with a bad cough while we were gone, they stayed home with grandma who informed me of the cough and I felt awful not being there) but I did make sure the kids got their vitamins and an extra vitamin d supplement + I gave them EmergenC everyday for the two weeks before we left. My husband, older kids and I stayed healthy (actually we stayed pretty healthy overall this winter, part of that is probably due to the fact that here it got SO cold this winter that we could rarely leave the house anyways)

Just would not work for us. We almost always go during the school year and missing more than the needed week for the trip is just not ok. I do try to avoid places like chuck-e-cheese and make sure we all get enough sleep and we take air-born sometimes. We have gotten sick once on a trip, but pretty sure we got it there, not before we left.

This is something to really think about too, I have seen it on here. People saying they are so sick but still going on their vacation because everything is set/paid for/vacation time already taken/only time kids can get our of school/ect.
There WILL be sick people at Disney. It's an expensive trip that is planned far in advance. Canceling just isn't reasonable for most people. So even if you stay in before your trip if you are going to be there a week you could be sick before the end of your trip from something you caught there, so I really do recommend something to try to boost your immune system a little before you go whether you stay in or not.

I would never consider doing this. My family travels a lot and if we stayed home a week before a trip, we'd never go anywhere!

We go during the school year, so it's not possible to be isolated with that, dance lessons, Boy Scouts, going to nearby center to exercise, etc. We just try to wash hands a lot and use sanitizer both before and during a trip.

We usually end up going to Target or Walmart the day before because we forgot something...Not to mention I don't cook the day before so there will be no dishes to worry about at all(and I can focus on my excitement..!):)

We won't visit any germ hot spots but otherwise just do lots of handwashing! I also plan to Clorox wipe the heck out of the room when we get there.

I am normally not a germaphobe. I probably let my kids get exposed to more germs than the average parent, though my kids are sick less than the average. However, I turn into a germaphobe the week before Disney. I keep them at home as much as possible. We do go to playgrounds if we need to get out - but they're outside ones. I don't make them skip special activities though. If there was a friend's party, they could go. Certain things like speech therapy or gymnastics class wouldn't be skipped either. But I stop working out at the gym so they're not in the kids' rooms there. I don't sign them up for anything they don't need to go to either. I also have them wash their hands more than usual before going - they wash their hands after going anywhere. (That is not our norm. It's rare that they even wash their hands before dinner at home usually).

We've been 6 times with kids so far - and we start young. (First trip had middle child at 2 months old and eldest at barely 3). We've never had sick kids at the start of our trip. We had one trip with sick kid at the very end - though we didn't realize it until we returned. (Middle child was 3 and acting tired more than anything else - turned out she had a double ear infection). Then we had another trip where our eldest came down with a stomach virus on our 10th day when we were scheduled to leave the next - so we left a day early. But seeing how we were at Disney so long, I'm pretty sure he picked it up there.

we don't stay in, but we do start taking extra doses of Vit C and daily vitamins to help boost the immune system.

We are to active to stay in so we do what we can to cut down on the possibility.
