Do you "sanitize" your room when you first get there?

I guess I'm missing something. What's the big deal about wanting a fresh bedspread? :confused3 Surely you must realize bedspreads are not changed with every new guest! People wander around in the nude, make love on top of beds, and also spill food or make other messes on the bedspreads. :bitelip: The bedspreads are patterened so they look clean, and do not show soil. I just don't want to be laying or sitting on someones discharges.

There's nothing wrong with wanting a new bedspread, but it's a little over the top to spill water on it, when all you have to do is call and ask for a new one. You are under no obligation to tell them why you need another one. :confused3

Do you all disinfect things in the park? Like railings and such?

ETA: How do you know if the new one was freshly cleaned?

I haven't read the whole thread, shame on me I know  , but I had to put in my two cents.

As soon as we enter the hotel room the first thing I do is take off the comforters and fold them and leave them in a corner.
We never lay on the comforters because I heard that they are not cleaned between guests. I even have my kids doing that now. It's not a big deal to just toss them in a corner of the room. We don't need them anyways.
The other thing I do is wipe down the remote and the phone. That's about it. Nothing too major. The rest I can't worry about. I'm on vacation. It is what it is.

In response to FSU.....I dont sanitize handrails, ect....at the parks but i do carry hand sanitizer in my purse and every so often I whip it out and give whoever wants a squirt some....I really am not a germphob but I do try to keep my families environment as germ free as possible....
I read an article that stated that the main cause of stomach virus on cruise ships are the utensils that are used in the buffets....people go through the lines and become infected with the bugs from others that have touched the serving utensils...How many of us go through a buffet line, then go to wash hands?? We always sanitize hands before eating at the table with Purell.

Anyone ever get vaccinated against a disease, like Chicken Pox, measles, etc? What do you think you are getting there? You are being exposed to the disease in some form, live or dead virus, so that you can develop antibodies. If you don't get exposed to the bugs, you don't develop antibodies against them.

How many of you super cleaners have kids with allergies and asthma? You may be creating your own problems.

I totally agree with you....However, the last thing I want on vacation is to needlessly expose my family to anything that might get us sick.... and I certainly do not want to have to think about laying or touching previous guests "leftovers" ....It is not all about germs.....

I think most of you who do not "clean" the room a bit when you get there are missing the point. It's not totally about germs -- I don't think I'll get sick if I don't Lysol the room. It's just gross.
Yes, I do worry about spraying a chemical around the room but it takes less than 5 minutes to do -- we leave the room and walk around the resort a bit and when we come back it has dissipated. When we check in we like to leave the room and walk around anyway.

I probably wouldn't get sick from drinking someone's urine -- but it's just gross. I probably wouldn't get sick licking the floor -- it's just gross. I wouldn't get sick from lying in someone's dried bodily fluids on the bedspread -- you get the picture.

BTW, I don't use many chemicals at all while cleaning my home. After all -- it's all mine:) In hotel rooms the stuff left behind belongs to strangers -- for me, that's the difference!

I have never worried about picking up germs in a hotel. I walk barefoot, take tub baths, lay on top of the comforter, sleep between the sheets, and drink out of the glasses. I like to walk on the wild side! :dancer:

Me too...I just can't be bothered. So far I've never encountered anything gross or disgusting and none of us have gotten sick. I guess we like to live dangerously! I would never carry a can of Lysol with me on vacation. I don't even OWN a can of Lysol spray! I don't take tub baths though...I'm a shower girl.

If I am ever grossed out by anything I will do one of two things. Call the front desk and have it rectified or get my money back and leave. I don't clean before we do anything. I do however clean up our mess ie wash tables etc if we have eaten. I have never "Lysolled".-that bad we leave.
