Do you request servers or assistant servers?

We send our concierge requests in soon and are debating requesting a server. Have you done this? We very much enjoyed our assistant server last time, but that's not to say we wouldn't enjoy another.

So unimportant in the grand scheme of things, but what would vacation be without planning?

If you liked a server you had yes put a request in. I been on 17 DCL cruises and only had one that was really great. So I put a request in for her for next time. She had a baby no longer with DCL.

We have always asked the servers we liked if they are on upcoming sailing. For our halloween sailing we found out our assistant server was going to be on our christmas sailing. When my wife and I were submitting our shoreside concierge requests we were going to request him as he was extremely good. However we ended up not requesting him as we were more concerned with our dining rotation and didn't want to risk a conflict if he were on another rotation. We have never had a bad server or assistant server so we aren't concerned.

I never understood the server request until my recent cruise. We really didn't enjoy our dining team. Everything was just really scripted with them, they said the exact same things to each of their tables. I saw other servers making hats out of napkins, showing tricks and just having fun. Ours didn't do any of that. Plus we always had to ask for drinks, they never refilled them until we asked. Never saw the head server even once. wasn't even sure which one was ours.

We've never requested servers and haven't had a bad one yet.

I haven't had a server I thought was worth requesting since the 90s. But yes, if there was one I absolutely wanted again, I'd request.

No. The servers often move around or go on vacation after their contract (every 6 mos?) so if they're on a different ship or part of a different serving team, why bother?

yes we do. we have found that the regulars we like the most tend to stay with 1 particular ship. it happens to be something servers get "bonus points" for in their reviews, like extra written comments on the comment card. but more than that, we do really enjoy visiting with them and hearing what has been going on since last seeing them. if they are on vacation they do get a note that they were requested and have mentioned to us that they missed us on our last trip. so for us we have first and second choice on both the magic and the wonder, and made a request for our upcoming fantasy cruise because one of our regulars on the magic told us she was going to do a contract there.

Depending on what ship I am on I will asks for a particular server, assistant server and even head server. Some of my previous servers are actually my friends on FB so we stay connected.

Dream concierge last week and we had room service every night. FABULOUS, very quiet/intimate. Will continue this in the future and next Dream cruise will see if the same person is still on board. She was only serving concierge and left for home on Friday but is supposed to be back in January.

We loved our assistant server on the cruise we just finished (disembarked this morning). He said he plans to renew his contract at least 2 more times. Should we sail the Wonder again, we would request him.

We liked the servers on our previous cruise (2014) and would be pleased to be seated with them again, but wouldn't request them.

We always request our favorite MDR Server, Freddy Bodya Pinilla on the Wonder because he loves his guests, goes above and beyond to remember their favorite things and has a super smile that lights up the room!! We even had him check his calendar before we booked on board, to make sure that we would have him as our server on our 2016 Alaska cruise!!!

We are getting ready for our third trip. On our first trip we had excellent servers. Last year our servers were just adequate. We are "letting it ride" on our trip in two weeks. I suppose we do not put that much energy into our trip planning. We did an FE on our first trip and may never do another. I guess the only thing we look forward to is wearing out deck chairs and hammocks and getting caught up on reading.

We had Freddy and I Ketut on our Alaskan cruise Sept 2014, they were fantastic. We haven't been back on the Wonder since but they were charming, quick on their feet and remembered every minor request we made for our next dining night. I couldn't recommend them enough. We of course called them out on our feedback to DCL by name.
