The Northridge Earthquake?

I mentioned to a co-worker that it was 30 years ago - she is 29. Seems like yesterday to me. We got woke up by it and immediately determined that we were far from the epicenter and there were others who had been woken up far more rudely.

My oldest is 21 - born a year after 9/11. Glad he has no personal experience with that one.

I remember hearing about it on the news being from Northern California. I vividly remember the '89 San Francisco earthquake, even though I was a kid at the time.

I was in upstate NY in college at this time, but had a college friend whose family was living in Encino. She was an absolute wreck. I just remember a lot of us trying to console and comfort her as she tried to get updates from family.

I remember the Northridge quake. We were in LA several weeks later when there was a 5.6 aftershock. We were standing between a very large hotel covered in glass windows and the entrance to an underground mall. Our options were to run back toward the hotel or go underground. We stood there for a few moments and, thankfully, the shaking stopped. We headed to down to the mall where there was an entrance to a theater. We had tickets to Sunset Boulevard starring Glenn Close and weren't sure if the performance was going to happen. We waited for a bit and someone came out and announced that the show would go on, but they had to inspect the hydraulic sets and other stage equipment for safety. We were finally allowed inside and the show was only delayed by about 30 minutes. It was a wild day and I remember it very clearly. And Glenn Close's performance was fabulous!

Same.. I was at the auto parts store getting supplies for a road trip to LA Coliseum for Guns n Roses & Rolling Stones. :)

I feel you. I was going to school in San Luis Obispo during Loma Prieta in '89. We barely felt that one, but it took me several days to contact friends in the Bay Area.

I do indeed. I was not there, I was in Germany, but I remember the reports on the news. I remember the pictures of shattered freeways and over passes.

Dad, our dog, and I by the Grace of God survived this horrible earthquake. Our apartment building about 15-20 minutes or so from Northridge was condemned. What mattered is that the three of us were 100% fine. Reminder to me anew today to truly cherish the blessing every day of those God trusts me to care for and love, including my beloved dad. Our Champ has gone on to become an Angel dog of Jesus. Please tell thosr you care for that you do. Give them the blessing of returning the sentiments to you. Don't wait! :grouphug:

I was 400 miles away sitting in a TV newsroom in Sacramento when the quake hit by 4:30 am. I called our News Director who started the call ins. Our Reporter and Photographer left first, our satellite truck next. All were there and set up for live reported in time for our Noon show. Our crew really hustled, we were the first Sacramento station on the scene.

I was working overnight shift, so I was in bed when it hit. I was about 100 miles away in Sacramento and the shaking HERE work me up. I still have a crack in the foundation of my house from that one.

I recall it being in the news. Living in the SF Bay Area, I experienced the Loma Prieta earthquake in 89'.

I'm a long way from California, but sure do recall it.

I always remember this image in the papers and on the news.

I remember hearing about it and seeing the aftermath on TV.

While I was living in LA there were 3 or 4 minor earthquakes.
