Yes. My best friend and I were the majorettes for the band and won awards. During camp in the summer, we all went including the cheerleaders/dancers (use to call them songleaders). We won awards, they did not. We all did intermix routines during the rallies in the gym, pre game or on the football field. We traveled with the band to San Francisco, UCBerkeley for band day, etc. The cheerleaders would dance/hold up the school banner and we'd have a party bus on the way home (how someone got liquor in there, no one will ever tell LOL) I think I've said this before, but I had an odd class. For some reason, out of the 400 of us, 99% all got along. There wasn't the jock/cheerleader vs nerd thing going on. It wasn't uncool to be in band or choir as many jocks were in the band and cheerleaders in the choir. I think it had to do with when we entered junior high, 4 elementary schools coming together. Our art department was being redone so we all had to take band, choir or orchestra for two years. I think it helped to eliminate any prejudices so by the time we did our 4 years in high school, we had all become friendly. There were a couple of people who had their nose in the air, but it was a few who were bully type/fight you type and would not have been popular in a regular class and one particular girl who thought she would be popular that wasn't and wouldn't talk to anyone beneath her (if you know what I mean). The classes above and below us had the usual jock/cheerleader vs nerd thing so it was an oddity. My best friend and I were in the middle. We were invited to parties, to work on decorating for homecoming, etc but we hung out mostly on our own. That was 50 years ago and friendship is still going strong.
