Help! I am running out of refrigerator space and need to know if you have to refigerate a baked pecan pie? Thanks. Can't seem to find info on the internet.
You can and if you are eating them tomorrow you should be ok leaving them out. I would put them in the fridge after tomorrow though. I know mine never make T-day so I usually make them in the morning. My dh eats them as fast as I make them.
My MIL told me the strangest thing.. she never ever refrigerates baked desserts, and she saiys that sugar is a good preservative. She has made it almost 65 years without dying of food poisoning.
I was going to say the garage as well. I wouldn't think it needs te be as cold as say meat but I wouldn't like it sitting out either. We love the garage for this reason. Of course people think we are strange because we don't like to park cars in there.
I don't think you need to. Pecan pie is a specialty of mine and I've never refrigerated it. It never lasts long, though! Getting ready to bake one in a few minutes and it won't go in the fridge! Also not fridging a pumpkin pie I'll be baking an a bit, too! I think you're fine!
Thanks everyone. I kind of made a compromise. I put them in the basement where it is pretty cool right now. If we get sick I will let you know. I already have half of my refigerator stuff in the garage already. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!!!
I don't think you'd get sick from overnight or even several days out of the refrigerator. My mother never refrigerates cakes or fruit pies, but they can get moldy, stale, or nasty in a week or so. Anything with sauce needs refrigerated- including fruit pies with sauce-y fillings. However one night should be OK.
