It's a hassle, sometimes messy . . . but a great price savings. For a Canon i560.

Good question. I always buy new. Just never thought of it doing it otherwise. I have however been wondering about buying reconditioned ink cartridges. Have you ever done that before? It's quite a bit cheaper, but I'm just wondering if they are just as good.

I tried it once and my printer died soon after the new cartridge was used. I'm pretty sure the new ink clogged up my printer head. Now I just buy new cartridges.

I have not had much success with refilling them myself. Sometimes the ink is funky or something! I have also learned that you should refill the cartridge before it goes completely empty otherwise the head may be too well used and the ink can just pour right through the head and, like Bill says, ruin your machine! ugh

I have had success with Staples and Office Max reconditioned cartridges. They both sometimes have coupons that can be used which adds money savings. Also, Staples will give you $3 off your purchase if you bring in an empty cartridge and Office Max will give a free ream of paper for an empty.

I buy mine from a reconditioning place.

A fraction of the cost and they have always worked just fine. I have a Brother MFC

I always buy new. Anyone that I know that has tried refilling hasn't had much success. The print quality has gone downhill, etc. For my printer, the new cartridges are pretty expensive. But I'd rather shell out the extra $10 or $15 there than need a whole new printer. My printer is also one of those photo printers, and I do print my pictures on it. I'm not messing with quality when it comes to my memories.

I print a lot of photos. I want the photos to last so I use the ink from the manu. since it is archival. No tests have been done on the archival life of the aftermarket inks and I don't want to find out in a few years that my pictures have faded. A few cents saved today won't mean much if they fade and I have to reprint.

We have an Epson that uses a ton of cartridges and it gets expensive. Reconditioned does seem to work well?

I buy new. I have no off brand place where I can purchase ink from.

I don't know if the ones that I buy can be refilled and if so how. I always just toss it out and buy new ones.

We used to buy new cartridges for our HP 932C, but it was getting expensive. We bought a refill kit and di it ourselves a few times, but the ink never seemed to last very long. We sold that printer along with the Gsteway PC when we got our HP system. DH bought another HP, 6122 series, that uses the same cartridges. I found a website that sells refurbished cartridges and buy both a black and tri-color for about the cost of just on new black or color cartridge.

We have a "Cartridge World" franchise at a local print shop in town. They use the highest quality inks, rivaling the manufacturer's inks in quality. The price is about 40-50% of new cartridges.

They will refill "off-brand" cartridges once & name-brand as long as the print head lasts.

Good luck so far.

IMO, the exorbitant price charged for new cartridges is nothing short of obscene. $25 for a hunk of plastic with MAYBE 2 oz. of ink is insane..........

No with my new printer I only buy new.....refilling them is the reason I HAD to buy a new one!! It jammed up my printer so bad it was unworkable by me trying to go the cheap route...now its only new ones for this printer!
