Do you read the obituaries?

I'm 23 and read the obituaries frequently. I don't know why. I've read them since I was a little girl.

OP- I am so sorry about your friend. He is in my prayers, and you are too.

Every day (either in the newspaper or on-line). I've been reading the obits for years.

Yup, what they said. Have been reading them since I could read!

Yes, I read them. I'm interested to see what happened to the people that died too young.

I do, when I think of it. I am a visiting nurse so often I will read about a current patient or past patient that has passed. If I had gotten close to them I may send a sympathy card o their families or even attend the service. Thankfully our local paper publishes them online, so I can read them for a few days at once.

I read them. People fascinate me and I love hearing about how people spent their life. I seem to get a warm feeling when someone lived to 102 and had 16 great-grandchildren and spent their time in retirement at the Elks Lodge or some sort of thing after 40 years in the military or what have you. It makes me appreciate my life seeing what others have done with theirs.

I do get sad when I find that two people were killed together in a car wreck.

OP-Can you kindly send another email letting the family know that you were close at work and would appreciate any updates or to offer help? It doesn't matter if you didn't know him socially. Work relationships do count.

I do, both here and online for my hometown. I'm at an age where an increasing number of people I know are passing away. And, if I'm not on the list for the day it will probably be a good day for me. If I am, then I need to get busy haunting...

Ditto! Always check our county paper and feel I pay my respects by reading a few obits whether I knew them or not. :flower3:

I do every day online. I worked in an assisted living home for a few years, so I scan through and see if any of my former residents have passed away.

ETA: This thread reminded me to check today, and one of my favorite residents actually did pass away on Monday. He was a Holocaust survivor and he was also an interpreter for the Nuremberg Trials. He had some amazing stories, and his wife (also a Holocaust survivor) made some AMAZING food.. she passed away earlier this year, so I'm glad that he won't be lonely anymore.

Just to make sure I'm not listed.:thumbsup2

Seriously, not really. The people I care most about are the ones that I am close enough to know whether they are living or dead, without needing the paper.

Anyone else, well I'd hear about them through word of mouth and that's good enough for me.

Don't read 'em. If one of the few people I remember passes I'll hear about it in some other fashion.:confused3
