Do you prefer your tree

Many of our ornaments were bought on trips or made by my daughter. We had such fun this year unwrapping the ornaments and telling stories about how we got them. I love my mismatched tree!

We've only been putting a tree up for 3 years (kids and I are Jewish, DH is not). Anyway, our tree is English Premier League themed. The only ornaments on it are from soccer teams in the English Premier League.

My tree is not gaudy nor does it have a single ornament that is the same.
It is 14' of family memories, our travels, our kids, our lives in a summary format that is colorful and eye catching. The entire tree is watched over by the Angel that was a wedding gift 23 years ago.

It is beautiful, people love our tree, we love our tree. Friends/Family love the history and they really love when they find something that is personal to them, whether it be their wedding favor, their baby shower favor or a much sought after ornament in the annual friends/family ornament fight that we hold every year.

Our tree is a mix of old and new.:) We have ornaments that are over fifty years old, and they look it. They've lost their original shine and some have been chipped in places, but they are some of the most cherished ornaments on our tree.

Always hanging in a very visible spot on the tree, are the special baby ornaments that were bought the year each child was born ('80, '84 and '90), and there are a few special grandson ornaments. We always buy a few new ornaments every year, too.

Our tree is definitely not a showroom piece, but it is full of family memories. Every ornament and decoration on the tree is there for a reason and has a story to go with it.
I just want to say, I love how you decorated your cacti in your yard! So festive and fun! :santa:

I like both types of trees. The old fashioned are fun because they bring back lots and lots of memories while the designer look are usually just really gorgeous. I guess it comes down to that I just love christmas trees. :cloud9:

Our tree is mismatched. Its fun to decorate it and see all the old ornaments along with the new ones. I do take time to put them in the right spot on the tree though so it looks neat and you can see each ornament.

We have 2 trees. There is a smallish one in the den that has Disney ornaments on it. The bigger tree in the living room has all the rest of the ornaments....memories attached to all of them. It is mismatched.

I like my tree to look more formal, and though the ornaments don't all match, there is a definite theme. I drive DH nuts when decorating it because I have to have all the colors "balanced."

This is me too!

to look like the old fashioned kind with mismatched ornaments and a touch of gaudy, or do you like it to be a Home and Gardens tree with a theme/color scheme and look very tasteful?

I like both, but I'm a sucker for childhood memories, so our's is the old fashioned kind. I do have a smaller Alpine tree that I decorate more tastefully, but it's not our main tree.

Both kinds of trees are lovely, but I like the old fashioned trees with mismatched ornaments. The ornaments on our tree range from popsicle preschool crafts to an ornament I bought at Harrod's in London. So many of our ornaments hold a unique memory or tell a special story. I love our tree! :goodvibes

I like the very formal Christmas trees but to me they aren't 'homey'.

I agree. I like to admire them, but I wouldn't want one -- at least not for my main tree. I love our mismatched every-ornament-has-a-story tree.

DH grew up in a house with themed trees and comments every year (multiple times) how much he loves our tree.

We have one tree. It is live and in our living room. I prefer mismatched ornaments and colored lights. That is what we are doing now. When our kids are grown up and out of the house, my wife wants to switch to white lights and themed. :confused3

I think matching trees are gorgeous in public spaces, but I love my mixed tree at home! It has home-made things, passed-down things, memories from trips, etc.

We have 3 trees, two themed .. one LSU and one red , white and green candy , mainly peppermint candy and snowmen.

The 3rd is our family tree, all of our mementos from trips, babies , wedding , new house, ornaments the kids made. My mom has quit putting up a tree , I am about to go " steal " all of my childhood ornaments if she will let me. My oldest is 21 , so when he is married one day some of my ornaments will leave and then when DS8 is off on his own all of my Jack in the box ornaments will leave : ( . I started him a collection when he was born. I prob won't let the boys ever let the boys have their baby ornaments lol.

I may stop the themed trees, but will always put up the family tree.

Mismatched all the way. To me, a home Christmas tree should actually MEAN something, and that includes filling it with a vast array of ornaments that are special to the family and that tell a story, not a 20-pack box of color coordinated bulbs from Target. Those kinds of trees are GREAT for department stores or WDW, but not a family tree.

If I had more than one tree in the house, I would have no problem theming/coordinating them, as long as the "main" tree stays the way it is.

Our tree is filled with so many memories. I buy ornaments wherever we travel and date them. All the kids ornaments with their photos and the popsicle sticks/clothespins are ones I cherish the most.
Someday I'll pass them down and have my designer tree, but until then, I love getting them out every year and adding to the collection. I noticed this year that 75% of the tree is Disney themed. Big surprise there. ;) I do change out the color lights for white every other year and also the trim rotating bows, garland and tinsel. I hang candy canes every year even though they get thrown out after Christmas. The gaudier the better!
The parent of one of the kids I watch remarked that they were using the same "blue and silver" themed ornaments and decorations for their tree for two years running and she was so bored with it. She said before that, she changed the theme every year.
I was surprised. Her kids are between 4 and 12. I don't know too many people with young kids who only do a themed tree, but she said her parents always did it that way. I wanted to ask what they did with the ornaments she made in school, but thought better and didn't. My kids are approaching 30 and still look for their ornaments, show their SO's and go down memory lane every year. The stories and laughter are wonderful. I can't trade that for classy perfection. Not yet.

All mismatched ornaments here.
All gaudy.
All tacky.

We love it.

Jim

Tons of different ornaments on our tree. I can just about tell you where every ornament came from. I have a lot of them that I received from students, friends, family, my children. They all mean something special.

I then string gold beads around the tree & place gold & red bows on the boughs. I love the way it looks.

Our main tree in the living room is real and mismatched and colored lights but it looks sooooo pretty to me. This is our first Christmas together (married in May) so I asked my K students to make me paper ornaments and holy gee they sure did!

The tree in our bedroom is pink with white lights and Barbie ornaments, thanks to a poster on the DIS who gave me the idea!

The small fake tree in my husband's office is religious with white lights.
