Do you prefer RC or EG on Fantasy for formal night?

My only thought is - we've done formal night (as well a Pirate night) in all the various MDRs onboard the ships. There's really not much difference where you dine. The menus are the same in all MDRs (except for the first night you are in each one), and the ambiance maintained by the table décor/servers costumes keeps with the themeing.

PrincessShmoo is quite correct, but we like to dress up so find either RC or EG more suitable to the occasion. AP is our least favorite MDR (any night) and on our last cruise that is where we had Formal Night. We had a nice meal (after all, it was the same menu as the other MDRs) and overall it was a nice evening, but more because we had some entertaining tablemates than to the ambiance of AP.

Royal Court is the more formal of the two you listed. I find it has slightly better lighting as well throughout the meal making photos a little better. A bonus if your table is near a mosaic. Enchanted Garden, is well obviously more garden themed, but has a fountain in the middle if you want to incorporate that into any photos. However, the lighting isn't as 'white light' as RC. You can do fine with either.

I always feel cramped in EG, so I am not as fan, but I do like it's menu, forget which dish it is right now.

we don't do much dress up but i would agree that RC has it over EG only because of the decor, even the bread baskets are all dressed up.

If you are going for "evening formal" with your attire (darker, more traditional), I'd go with RC. If you are going for "daytime formal" (lighter colors, linen), then EG.

Yes, I know people are dressing up for dinner, an evening event. However, depending on when you sail and if you have first seating, it might very much still be daytime when you sit down to dine.

But I don't think you can go wrong with either place, regardless of your clothing choices. Animator's, however, would feel weird with everyone dressed all fancy, IMO.
