This past Dec I cruised to Cozumel and Key West. I definately felt safer in Key West than Cozumel. Maybe it was the shops telling us to come visit them and the beggars in Cozumel. Key West seemed more laid back.

Key West, while it's pretty cool for Florida, isn't that exotic for me as a cruise ship destination. I can drive there, for heaven's sake! (And I have... everyone should drive the Overseas Highway at least once in their lives.)

I want to go to new places where there's a different government, they use different money, have different languages, etc. I used to think Hawaii was an exotic destination, but when we stopped there on our way home from Australia and New Zealand, it seemed just like home.

If I haven't been, then I'm interested in seeing the port of call.

We are cruising the new western caribbean itinerary in January 2003, and even though I haven't gone to Key West, Florida, I sort of questioned why we are stopping there. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure I'm going to enjoy myself touring Key West, but when I think of the caribbean I don't think Key West. I'm probably just not informed in this area, but I believe it's a part of Florida (LOL!!!). I'm sure it's beautiful and therefore the stop, but as Dave said, "I could drive there" . Another port might have been a better choice, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, anything else... .

I'm sure Key West is beautiful in a "Western Caribbean" kind of way.
