do you "OWN" a thread you start

DO YOU "OWN" YOUR THREAD

  • yes, and I can tell posters to go away if I want to no matter what

  • yes, if posters are off topic I can ask them to stay off the thread

  • No, all replies are welcome even if I don't agree

  • No, but if you are rude, mean or attack my position, I will defend myself

yep    #4 for me   and like Stitch, I also have a short attention span. Ohh, look, a pirate pirate:

I don't think that anyone can control a conversation here or in real life but I hate it when people turn a serious subject into a joke or go completely OT with some irrelevant subject of their own. Jokes are fun and I love them but often they're private jokes and that's not so fun. It's a shame that it happens but there's nothing that can be done IMO.

I personally hate it when a thread is locked just because the OP didn't like the direction it was taking.

I figure, if you put a thread out there, you've gotta live with wherever it goes. It's not fair to the other people who have invested time in answering the thread just to have it suddenly locked.

Just a pet peeve of mine on this board. ;)

I agree for the most part, but I have read threads in which people just jump all over the person who has posted something they are going through or something that happened to them and I can truly understand the desire for the thing to die. Does it really take 100 people to tell a poster that they have been selfish or petty? I think they probably get the idea after the first couple of pages. (by page 13 or 14 I'd be praying for the old lock!)

::yes:: I hate when I see this on threads too. I don't mind opposite opinions, but how many different people have to tell the OP the exact same thing? It's almost like everyone has to have the last word...over and over and over...

Many times I've jokingly referred to threads I start as "my thread, my rules" - but all in good fun. :)

No way. No-one owns a conversation.

::yes::

Ahhh, the beauty of FREEDOM of SPEECH. As long as you are within board posting guidelines, I believe that no OP has the right to tell you what to post or not post on a thread, or to get off of "their" thread.

I guess some people can't tolerate differences of opinion.

And yes, in a free and open discussion, I've certainly learned a lot from others.

No, you don't actually own a thread when you first post, but for those responding at least use some netiquette, please.

Then again manners IRL and online are sadly decaying.

I just think people going off topic on a thread is just a matter of people with short attenti...oh look a guy with an umbrella. :umbrella:

I just love :umbrella: I mean, I'm from Oregon, so I used to be :umbrella: Well, there is no umbrella woman smilie, so it's the closest I can get to what I once was.

And, speaking of :umbrella: , how's the weather around the country? We're needing our umbrellas, from the look of it outside.

Uh oh, I seem to have gone off topic. ;)

I just sent you a PM about this.

Just wanted to tell the world that Kaycee did not mean what I interpreted her to mean! Yes, some posters do get snippy with others when they ask a question that has been asked a bajillion times before, but that wasn't the case this time. :teeth:

Thanks for everyones opinions. I definetly do not feel that I own any threads, and it really bothers me when people tell others to "get off" or anything similar. I think its similar to a cocktail party. A small group has gathered and they are having a conversation. A new person wanders over and joins in. They begin to talk about something different, or along the same lines but a different tangent, or they disagree with what you have been saying and let you know. Unless this real life person is exceptionally rude or vulgar, most people would just grin and bear it. I highly doubt anyone would have the guts to say to a stranger "get out of our conversation".

I hate how someone will start a thread on a very serious issue like the correct way to hang toilet paper in the bathroom, and some people will answer it with there opinions, and other people will make jokes that have absolutely nothing to do with toilet paper in the bathroom! I know that some of these threads go on for 7 pages, but all 7 pages should be about toilet paper rolls in the bathroom. If not, the poster should be taken out back, and beaten. Come on...this is a Disney board. If we can't come here to get serious answers to the serious life altering questions that effect all of us on a day to day basis, where can we go???

I hate when people hang the paper backwards. I'm on THIS side dammit.

Speaking of that, have you ever noticed how the 20" diameter rolls of Scotts in public bathrooms turn into rope when you pull them off the spool? I'll take backwards hanging paper over sideways hanging paper every day of the week.
