Do you own a pool? Is it worth it?

I have been trying to decide whether I should have a pool or not. I would love it and so would my 1 dd, my ds and my dgrdd's. However I don't think my dh would be very happy. We have however been offered a 22" round above ground pool that is I think about 3 yrs old with all the things needed. Filter, skimmers vacuum, everything you need. It would all be free. What do you think?

We love our pool! Here in Texas, the swimming season is pretty long, and we never drain the pools.

We have an inground gunite pool with a hot tub. We can heat just the hot tub, just the pool, or the whole thing.

Maintenance is a snap. We have "zero maintenance, zero mess" landscaping in the back yard- nothing that drops leaves into the water or needs much attention. We run the Polaris pool sweeper for a few hours each night (it's on an electronic timer,) and the pump runs for a few hours each day. I'll sweep the pool with a long-handled brush occasionally, mostly after storms or high winds.

Chemicals? We pay about $35 a month to a service who does all of our chemicals. We've never had the water go yucky- it's always sparkling clean.

It is true that you can't expect to make the money spent constructing the pool back when you sell your home, so I guess you have to decide if a $25-$45 thousand dollar investment is something you can stand to lose, and if the fun is worth that much before building an inground pool.

We have had our pool for about 9 years one word .....RUN ... RUN fast .... RUN hard...... and keep running AWAY ....I say AWAY from the pool LOL We live in TX so it is great for my kids in the summer. As far as maintence, get a good pool guy and keep him :D . Ours is kinda big and in ground , your family will use it more then you think .
Enjoy

I cant get DH to help me mow the lawn!

He would never help with a pool - has told me that numerous times. (We dont have any flowers in the yard either.)
I take DS away on mini-vacas where there's a pool.

We put an in-ground pool in last year and absolutely love it. Maintenance is pretty simple and not very time-consuming either.

We opted to go with Baquicil instead of chlorene. While the chemicals are more expensive, you don't have to treat the pool as often, so we figure that it's a wash expense-wise and Baquicil is easier on the pool equipment, clothing and eyes.

We also got a heater, which extends the swimming season by a few weeks. We figure we'll get a good four months of use out of it. We're in it all the time.

Anther good thing is that the kids invite their friends over here, so we always know where they are and what they're up to...:)

My brother and SIL were offered a similar pool four years ago. They brought it home, patched it up and have been living in it ever since!! I'd say go for it.:D

Thanks for the info on fiberglass pools, Mrsmom.:D
