Do you (or others) think you are snooty?

Many people think I'm snooty or stuck up. But that's because I'm shy around people I really don't know. That and I don't really do much small talk. It's usually meaningless to me. I will talk more about serious things or my own personal fave topics.
In which many people that I'm around in real life don't really share my interests.

It's only people online that sometimes don't think this way of me.

Hmmm, I can sure give some allowance for shyness. I can be shy in certain situations. However, small talk is a part of getting to know someone. Hard to be introduced and then go right to the big topics. Could be that you feel shy because you aren't good with the small talk. Kind of a cycle.

And if you're just talking about your favorite personal topics and not asking others about theirs that could be a turn-off to others. But take what I'm saying with a grain of salt since I don't know you.

And now I'm curious--what are your interests?

Classic movies and musicals, Trance music, teddy bears and Disney.
No one around me really shares those interests.

And I do some small talk on occasion, usually with people I'm just meeting.

I didn't use to be shy. I used to be very outgoing as a small child. But then we moved to a completely different area of the city and I was completely different from everyone else my age. Plus I've had a lot of bad experiences with people. Just call me gun shy.

They don't really think I'm a snob, it was just a joke because I'm the only childless one and love hair, makeup, and clothes.

IRL, I'm not snotty at all. I do have some definite ideas about how things should be done...but it's not snobbery.

On a couple of occasions people have mistook my shyness for snootiness because I sit back and people watch a bit before jumping in. On a scale of 1 - 10, compared to some snobs I know, I'm a 1.

But what is funny is that I was thinking to myself " I am not really a snob, people just think that about me because I am shy/quiet when they first meet me."

Hmmm, that makes me wonder. How many people are really snobs, but hide under the "I'm shy" excuse.

cteddiesgirl, what is trance music? Sounds like something I could use with the zoo that I live in...

And no, my dogs are NOT shy--I wish they were. The second someone walks in the door they are all over them. One of my cats appears snobbish, but in reality he is shy....

When I was in high school someone had a bunch of t-shirts made that said that in reference to our in-county rival school. We had beaten them at basketball every time we played them since the schools had been in existence. I thought they were hilarious but my mom thought they were horrible and wouldn't let me have one. I couldn't have worn one anyway becaue our cheerleading coach thought they were tacky too and made a rule against them.

yes, I am way too quiet, shy, and tend to keep to myself - I have often had people tell me they thought that before they got to know me! I am actually just the opposite. I think people tend to see it as you avoiding THEM for some reason - rather than you avoiding SITUATIONS that make you uncomfortable.

Never been told I was snooty ( well not to my face anyhow) but I do tend to speak my mind and a lot of people dont like my opinions for some reason but generally if I have something to say I will say it. I am just a brat I gues

WOW!!! This could be me - My DH has never met a stranger - he can walk into a room and by the end of the day he will know 95% of the people in the room and have talked to 99% - For reasons that are too sensitive to discuss on this board so as to not make this an extremly serious thread - I tend to keep to myself ALOT - and I have been told my some of my neighbors in the past that they LOVED my husband but they thought I was a bit of a snob/stuck-up - but that now they understand and know my circumstances in my past have led me to be the person that I am today they understand - I still keep to myself at times but I don't go overboard with the personal info and I tend to NOT seek out people....I have my friends and I have my aquaintences (sp) and I know the difference between the two -

Well, my family don't think I'm snobby enough 'don't you care about designer names?' 'how can you shop there? it's for poor people'....you get the drift.

BF on the other hand sometimes thinks I'm snobby, but he's just jealous because I'm far better, weathlier and generally of much better stock than him (just kidding)
