during booking. I see a lot of people get wait listed. I understand during the busy time, but what about the off seasons. We travel during fall breaks. If we purchase DVC, we would start trying to go the first 2 week of June, or 2nd week of January. I am a teacher so my times are limited.

At the 11 month mark, except for limited view categories during peak seasons you should be ok. I just booked 3 different reservations between 11/30 and 12/7 of this year, all on the 11 month window, and was fine. That was a standard view studio at BWV, a 2BR theme park view at BLT and a 2BR boardwalk view at BWV.

When I booked at 11 months for F&W at BWV, I got the 2BR SV no problem, but had to wait list for the stuidos we needed. The wait list came through though, no problem.

You should usually be able to get something without concern. The more you care, the more important it is to buy where you want to stay.

The thing I've seen posted on here again and again is traditional "slow" times at Disney are not slow for DVC. DVC can be very, very busy for Food and Wine Festival in the fall (late September to mid-November) and early December is another busy time for DVC that is traditionally slow for Disney.

If you buy where you want to stay, then you'll be able to get the resort you want at 11 months out. It just takes long-term planning.

In 12 years, I was only shutout once for a DVC resort. That was when I called 3 weeks out for a Sunday night in mid October (add on to a business trip), I ended up booking POFQ (before the $95 fee). I typically book boardwalk view for BWV between 8 & 11 months. I have had no trouble getting OKW 1 bedroom for May at 7 months. I once got 1 night at BCV for early February 1 week before (again, add on to business trip).

I did get shutout for GCH before VGC opened. I ended up at Paradise Pier.

Our trip coming up is our 2nd DVC stay and when I called to book BCV it was available, and our first DVC stay was also at BCV (May 2011) and was able to book all 9 nights in a studio no problems. I just called yesterday to book our August/September trip which we will be there during Labor Day weekend and I was able to secure 3 nights at BLT Studio in a MK view. I have to wait until my 7 month mark to be able to book the rest of my stay (want to book until 9/9) because I am going to use points from our SSR contract. My point is that since becoming DVC members, I haven't had any problems securing rooms and views that I wanted.

We've been members since '08. This is what we were able to book without a waitlist, unless otherwise noted:

  • AKV Kidani 1 BR savanna view - mid-September - booked about 8 1/2 months out
  • BLT lake view studio - end of February - booked at exactly 7 months out
  • AKV Kidani 2 BR savanna view - early August - booked 11 months out; switched to a THV at 7 months with a waitlist of about 4 days
  • BWV 1 BR STANDARD VIEW! - early January - booked at exactly 7 months
  • AKV Kidani 2 BR savanna view and studio standard view - originally for early August - booked at about 9 1/2 months out. CHANGED OUR DATES right before Christmas to end of April. Successful switch at about 4 months out. Changed check-in by one day successfully at 3 1/2 months out.
The only times we were sort of picky was for the BLT studio and the BWV 1 BR standard view. I would have waitlisted for them, but wasn't necessary. The time we switched to a THV, we really wanted to stay there, but if the WL hadn't come through, we would have been fine with AKV.

We normally don't travel during busy times. I've had no trouble getting what I wanted.

We have ALWAYS gotten what we wanted.

I don't think we have ever been waitlisted for anything. In my signautre, you can see where & when we have visited.

Btw, I'm a teacher too (I've never let that stop me from a half-dozen January & early May trips :rolleyes1).

We are buying BLT (currently in the beginning stage, just signed our contract) and I am also a teacher. Unfortunately my district is VERY strict about days off during the school year. I did it once last year and used 3 personal days to go for a 5 night trip. It did NOT go over well, but such is life. I give my everything day in and day out each school year, and if every other year I want to take 3 days to enjoy my family so be it. How do you get those January and May trips in?

I've always used my personal & sick days. Sometimes the person at my school in charge of Payroll would find "creative" ways to record my "personal" & "sick" days if it were one of my longer trips. Sometimes we'd go to WDW for about 6 or 7 school days. ;)

It also helps to have a school with several staff members who take vacations during the school year.

Knock on wood but we have had pretty good luck getting where we wanted to stay and when.

We were able to add on 2 nights at Kidani in a 2br at the last minute during Christmas week this year. We had waitlisted BLT that week but didn't really expect to get it and were just as happy at Kidani.

I have gotten mostly everything I have wanted at 11 months, and most times at 7 months also. We travel all times of the year, including Christmas.
The only unit I wasn't ever able to get was AK concierge, but I didn't really expect it to be available.

If you are happy staying at your home resort, don't need a specialty option (concierge, 3 BR) and book day one 11 months out willing to accept any unit type in your size, your chances of success are going to be almost 100% unless there's a fluke situation like the Summer Olympics come to Orlando. If you add the WL at the time of the call if it's not available, your chances of success increase further. While those times you mention are slower than some, they are not as slow as the rest of WDW for the same dates. Realize that it's no only possible, but some would say likely, that both of those times could increase in the number of points required to reserve, esp Jan.

I'm knocking on wood too. I have only been locked out once and that was for a last minute trip. Tried to get anyway 2 months out Presidents weekend. No where was available, not even for cash. Had to stay off site. Not fun, but we had a good time.

You suck :snooty: My district is VERY strict about Personal and Sick days. And we can't use either before or after a weekend with a day off already. So Jersey week my wife and kids can go the whole week, but I have to work all three days. So I'll end up arriving after them, or changing weeks we go.

I couldnt get a standard view studio at blt for dec 7, called yesterday at exactly 9. Only need 1 night before a cruise.

i've never had a problem booking OKW at 10-11 months out.

i have generally gotten what i wanted when i tried to switch resorts at 7 months, but i did waitlist one time at exactly 7 months out and not get it.

I have never not been able to get my desired villa size at my home resorts at the 11 month window. This includes GV's at SSR at Thanksgiving and a Beach Cottage at VB for spring break.

I have been fairly lucky at the 7 month window for MLK weekend, BLT MK view, BWV BW view and BCV 2 brs.

Did waitlist once and got VWL 2br for early May. This came through in less than a month from putting the request in.

I have always been able to get what I want in the past 2 years. Did have a little trouble at BLT getting a standard view for several days in a row, but I just did a split stay with BCV and it wasn't a big deal.
