Do you normally pay your hotel bill

It depends on where I am.

At WDW, I've always been required to pay the entire bill at check-in. At other places, I just go with whatever their policy is.

We pay for the room at check-in (we have room-only reservations), but leave a credit card so we can charge purchases/meals throughout the vacation, then we pay the balance at check-out.

I have never seen WDW being any different from any other place. I give them a credit card number when I check in. But nothing gets posted to the card until I leave. Then the room and anything else that I have charged all gets charged at once.
I guess if you are paying cash it may work differently, but I would think that most hotels would want the cash up front if that is how you were paying.

It's been awhile since I've done a "room only", but I thought Disney charged the room cost right away, along with any passes or tickets.

Whether I do a room only rez or a package I always pay it off before I arrive, then there is one less bill to deal with afterwards. I do this no matter where I'm staying if I can.

They make two charges to your credit card. One when you arrive for the amount remaining for the room charge and then one at the end for any remaining charges. If you exceed the resort limit they will charge your card then also.

We always book "room only" & Disney charges the 1rst night & the rest is due at check-in. But since I budget everything & pay with my debit card I pay the hotel before we get there. Once we arrive I give them my debit (visa) & charge to the room the meals etc.

We pay for most of our trip before hand and none of it before hand, depends on how you look at it. We pay the deposit with a debit card and then we buy Disney Dollars, a little a week(who am I kidding? A lot a week) until we have enough to pay off the room and tickets. We guess on the food by looking at menus posted on the DIS and other sites. Then we leave our debit # at the desk and we're off!

We always pay our room in advance of our trip and then just give our credit card for charging privileges. It is really nice to get there and know that you don't have to shell out big bucks for your room. It makes our trip so much more fun.

What are "Disney Dollars"?

Grumpy *and* unenlightened.

I know many people pay off their room ahead of time and that is my strategy this trip. About a month and half before we go I am charging the balance due on my Disney credit card so I can get those points in time for our trip. If I get any room discounts, like AP (I hope, I hope) we will leave that as a credit on our account for dining, spa treatments, etc. This is this first time I have done anything like this and I am hoping the logistics work for us. We will get more in Disney rewards than we would in interest in our vacation savings account.

Disney does not wait until checkout to process room charges. Room charges and tickets (including e-night) are processed immediately. These charges are still listed on your checkout bill, but they were charged earlier. The bill even reflects that if you look at it closely. We usually have at least three charges on our credit card bill for any Disney stay -- rooms, e-night tix and the rest of the stuff.

We always pay for entire room before we leave so we don't have to worry about it. We don't charge anything to the room (we have nationwide on cell phones and pay for purchases when we buy them), because we don't want to have to bother keeping track of charges to our credit/debit cards. We always budget so much $$ before we leave and we find it's better to try and have as much as possible paid off before we leave. Sorry, but we don't have the luxury to just charge, charge, charge and not worry about what the bill will be at the end of the trip.

Sorry for rambling ...

If you use your debit card (instead of a credit card) when traveling, be careful. A lot of hotels will place a 'hold' on X amount of dollars, sometimes they will actually charge your card for the hold amount because it is a debit card and then refund it back if you don't use the whole amount. I haven't used my debit card in wdw so I haven't experienced it there but I have had it happen at other hotels.

I work in a bank and I get everyone's tale of woe when something goes wrong with their debit card.

As I said, I haven't had it happen at Disney but it does happen (also beware of car rental places).
