Do you need to book a full package to get DDP?

Hello!

My family and I will be going to WDW this April. My parents have generously offered to pay for our resorts and dining, just so long as we all pay for our flights and park tickets. My parents want to get the DDP for all of us, since it would be much less of a hassle for them to worry about paying for food for all 8 of us throughout the trip. Is there a way to add on DDP to a resort reservation alone, or do you NEED to add tickets to make it a package? If so, how many tickets?

With a few exceptions, you need to add tickets to the package. For a paid dining plan, the minimum is 1 day tickets for each member of the party. Typically, under the free dining plan promotions, they are a minimum of 2 day tickets.

The exceptions to the above (all under paid dining plans, free dining has historically always required a ticket purchase) are people staying on DVC points, AP holders, and (I believe) people staying on military tickets. In those cases, tickets are not required to purchase the DDP (or any of the 3 main dining plans) with the room.

The easiest way to do this is have them pay for the tickets and pay them back, but you will have to buy tickets as part od the deal.

Just put everything together on the package and you pay for the tickets yourself. You can make two different credit card transactions, just figure out how much the park tickets are and pay off that portion of the package.
