Do you miss TOP40 Music?

Remember the 1960-80s when TOP40 Music was king. Everyone listened to the popular songs of the day and they played the same songs over and over and over. Even though certain songs were tiring there were some good songs that everyone talked about in school.

Nowdays TOP40 is dead and there is no supergroups or songs that EVERYONE likes. The Blacks listen to their HIPHOP or RAP songs, Rural folks and Rednecks listen to Country, Cultural types listen to Jazz and Classical and the rest of us listen to Oldies from 30 years ago. We alll wonder what happened to TOP40.

Top 40 still exists, it has just changed. Top 40 now often includes all genres of music. On the way home from work just the other night (on a top 40 station) I heard a country song (Keith Urban), a hip hop song (black eyed peas), a typical top 40 song (Kelly Clarkson), a bit of a rocking song (green day). Other times you can hear Norah Jones who is a bit jazzy/bluesy mixed in or Joss Stone who is quite bluesy.

I think it is fantastic that top 40 has branched out to include most genres of music.

Well I did...but then I got XM. Now I can listen to whatever specific genre I am in the mood for---and that is NEVER EVER R&B/rap. Plus no DJ's yammering on and no commercials.
My only regret is that Margaritaville and E Street (SPringsteen) are on Sirius and not XM.

Oh, I think that Top 40 still exists, it is just geared toward younger people (as it always has been). I think you are just getting older and not enjoying what comprises "Top 40" now.

Top 40 is still around, it just means the Top 40 songs on the chart. Some good stuff, some bad stuff. I agree that most older people just don't feel it's the same, but Top 40 never refers to a specific genre, just the most played songs that are all put on the same format.

The "top 40" show is still on, but Casey Kasem has passed it on to Ryan Seacrest.

Of course there's still top 40 music. Apparently you haven't found the right stations...
