This is inspired by bananiem's Olive Garden thread.

Do you mind being called dear? It doesn't upset me at all. Actually I find it flattering.

Doesn't bother me at all..I hate being called Ma'am though..that one makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up!!

i don't mind when it is from an older person- preferably someone who is old enough to be my Gramma (50's+). I do not like it when it is someone my own age- for some reason, that seems smarmy to me. I have one of my customers who always calls me honey- i love her. she is 92 and I wich she was my gramma because she is so sweet!

I'm ok with it if the person is older than me and I'm 29. If they are my age or younger it bothers me and I find it rude. When teenagers call me pet names it really bothers me. I am not their Honey, Sugar, Sweetie, or Dear.

I don't mind dear unless it is overly used... I don't like Ma'am and I hate being called "guys" folks are fine but being called "guys" when there are ladies present is a No No

I guess I don't mind it all too much, but I do notice when its said, more so than ma'am.

Doesn't bother me. People have called me a lot of things over the years. You have to pick your battles.

I don't mind. Of course I'm from the south and I get called "Honey", "Hon", "Sweetie", "Dear", "Darlin" and a variety of other endearments by people I've never met before on a daily basis, lol. You get used to it and I don't give it a second thought.

the thing I don't care for is the Ma'am......... :earseek:

Why does that bother you? Not trying to be rude but that is a usual thing here in the South.

dang That Tag Fairy is Quick !!!

congrats.. :cheer2:

If someone wants to say something nice to me, I'll take that :)

Since I inspired this I'll reply. :) I don't mind if someone is sincere. However, in my situation it was obvious to us that the wait staff were instructed to call all men "sir" and all women "dear." I'd rather in that case that they just said, "Here's your soup." No dear needed. :)

Nope, ma'am, dear, those don't bother me. Although I don't like it when its some creepy chest starer using a term of endearment. I do hate when someone I barely know shortens my name to Sue. The only person that can call me Sue and have it sound natural is my sister.

Ahhh, thanks. It really does help to hear why other people do or do not like it.

I'm 28 and hate being called MRS Vance... I know it's the polite way to speak to me, but it just makes me feel so..responsible! I don't mind dear at all.. I get HON all the time too.
