Do you mind air turbulence?

I am not scared of it, but after a while it gets annoying. I am sure the pilots don't like it any more than we do though.

I hate x 1 mazillion to fly but I do. The problem is trying to hide it from my daughter. I have to act like it doesn't bother me-don't want her catching my eccentricities. She did say she hates turbulence(I so totally understand)so I tell her it's like a bumpy road. She says,"Yes,mom, but on a plane the bumpy road is 35,000 ft in the air. If you go off the road,it's a big problem." She's right.

I don't mind turbulance as long as it is up and down. Coming back from Fort Lauderdale a couple of weeks ago it was really windy and stormy as we were landing in Buffalo and the plane kept going side to side - I was almost going to be sick.

It felt like to front of the plane and the back of the plane were going on opposite directions and I hate that motion!

The flight attendants kept walking around so then I knew it was not too bad - gotta hate when they buckle themselves in though!

Turbulence, I don't mind. Now I DID mind getting hit by lightning, having all of the lights in the plane go out and having the pilot say, "Don't panic." That was a little freaky.

Turbulence use to bother me. But I've been through so much of it lately when I fly that I've gotten use to it. :goodvibes

Hmmm. I've been flying for 40 years and never really had much. Why now is there seemingly a lot? Or are there just more people flying and reporting it?

I look at the flight attendant's faces. If they're calm, I'm calm. If I see a look of fear, then I start to worry.

I try to do that too. I am an awful flyer. My family doesn't even like to sit near me. I am getting better and I listen to my iPod. A few summers ago, we flew from Philadelphia to Las Vegas. Wow-did we ever take a drop just as we crossed the Rocky Mountains! I was okay after the fact because I understood why that happened-thanks to a fear of flying discussion board I visit before I fly.

Turbulence can not hurt the plane. It is simply uncomfortable for the passengers. Pilots try their best to find the smoothest ride for the passengers but during some weather patterns or when crossing the jet stream then turbulence is inevitable.

I volunteer on a fear of flying site if anyone is interested in working on their issues with flying. Everything there is FREE and we don't push any programs (unlike other FOF sites).

There are several DISers over there too. :)

www.takingflight.us/forums is the message board and www.takingflight.us is the home page with links to info and resources.

We have commercial pilots, medical personnel, resident psychologist, business travelers, etc... Everyone is welcome!

Thanks for that link. I'm looking forward to reading the posts over there and see what else I can learn. :surfweb:

I don't like it. Bothers my stomach, and not too crazy about the risk factor. A little bumpy isn't bad if it doesn't last long.

I have never ever flown and I just know if I did and we hit even a tiny hiccup of turbulence, it wouldn't amtter that the plane is OK, I'd already be gone from heart failure!!!

I've passed up some great opportunities because of my fear. I could have gone to Australia in Oct., for free!!!:sad2:

I like it, and I like tooth aches

Turbulence doesn't bother me and I have been in some pretty rough stuff.

One time we were flying to Orlando at night and all the way from Pittsburgh to Orlando it was bad because there was a large storm on the East coast. There was lightening, it was dark, I thought my daughter was going to freak out on the plane.

it never bothered me when I was younger. in fact, I used to like it...weird, I know, but I flew cross country a lot and it was always so long, that it sort of broke up the monotony. at some point in my 30s I stopped enjoying it. I think I flew on a smaller plane and we had really bad turbulance and something sort of clicked for me and I haven't been crazy about it since. but it never really freaked me out until I flew with my kids for the first time this past october. every time we hit a pocket I went into mommy bear mode, but there really isn't anything that I could do about it, so left me feeling very unsettled.

So, then, a sharp stick in the eye would be........?

real nice

I used to be terrified of even the smallest bump while flying. Hated turbulance. I really don't like it when the first thing out of the pilot's mouth if that we are in for a bumpyh ride. That said, last week while flying to Colorado it didn't bother me. I actually looked forward, for the first time, in the flight home. It was just small bumps but the pilot had the staff sit halfway through the drink service. For some reason it didn't bother me this time. I've never experienced bad turbulance yet though and hope I never do. I remember my grandparents hit it coming back from CA years ago. The plane unexpectedly dropped 3000 feet in seconds! All the food and drinks went everywhere. A lady walking down the aisle slammed into the ceiling of the plane and seriously injured her back. That scares me because it was so surprising. No one saw it coming.

Nothing sets me to praying like turbulence!

I did an online course at fearofflying.com, which explained turbulence and that helped a lot. It still freaks me out though.
