i really love hot chocolate. when i was younger my friend had an aunt that made her own hot chocolate mix. it was our favorite! i have never made any before but want to try. so i am asking for you best homemade hot chocolate recipe. please share!

I'm interested too. My oldest daughte LOVES hot chocolate.

I do. I use (WARNING: European measuring units) 200 gr. dark chocolate (60-70% cocoa) and 1 liter milk + 1-2 cups water.

I melt the chocolate in 1-2 cups of water over low heat. I heat the milk up to boiling point in a seperate pan and gently poor the chocolate (in the water) and the milk together.

1 cup of milk (heated)

wisk in 1 tsp cococa and 2 tsp sugar into milk and heat through..... my mom made the best hot chocolate!

My favorite is Mexican Hot Chocolate. It's rich and has a little hint of cinnamon to it. The only trick is you need to find Mexican chocolate in your grocery store. It usually comes in a hexagon (or is it an octogon?) shaped box and has disks of the Mexican chocolate. I melt 1/2 a disk in 2 cups of milk in a pan on the stove until all the chocolate is dissolved, and then it's ready to serve! A friend likes to chop up the chocolate in a food processor first, but personally I don't think it matters that much.

DH makes a huge batch of hot chocolate mix every year, with my grandma's recipe:

1-8 qt pkg carnation instant powdered milk
1 lb. Nestle Quick
8 to 11 oz of powdered coffee creamer (any flavor--french vanilla works well)
approx cup powdered sugar

Mix well, store in air-tight container. Appox 1/3 cup of mix to 1 cup boiling water

Willams Sonoma has great hot chocolate "mix" -its not really a powder -it is tiny chocolate shavings that melt fast when you warm it in milk.
It is expensive -but it is nice for a treat

There's a recipe on the side of the Hershey's Cocoa container. That's what I use when I make homemade hot chocolate. It's sooo much better than instant!

Now I'm excited for winter!

I make this one too! It makes a ton, and I always share with my daycare families.

I bought some Godiva hot chocolate similar to another poster's description -- tiny little shavings of chocolate. Now that I know I can just use regular chocolate, I'm going to experiment with different kinds of good chocolate.

OP -- you can probably just heat up some milk, then add grated chocolate and sugar (if you're using a really dark chocolate) to taste.

This is super rich, but awesome.

2 oz unsweetened chocolate squares
2 oz semisweet chocolate squares
1/3 c sugar
2 T brown sugar
2 c milk
2 c half & half
1/2 t vanilla extract

Combine chocolates, sugars, milk and half & half in a 2 qt saucepan and whisk constantly over medium heat until the chocolate has melted and the mixture is steaming, but not boiling. (You can break up or grate the chocolate to make the whisking easier, but it's not really necessary.) Reduce heat to warm. Pour half the mixture into a blender and blend until frothy. Add it back to the pot, stir in the vanilla and serve. (I just use my immersion blender in the pot for a really brief mix) Makes 4 servings

Me Too!:thumbsup2 It is super creamy. The kids seem to enjoy it also. I always make it on those snowy days when the kids come in from playing. They think it is great.
