I just read somewhere that a family made a disney chain to countdown the days to disney.. that is too cute! I love the idea.. where do you hang something like this? I would love to hear more idea from everyone!

I've done them before, they are really fun. You can hang them from the center of the fan of a child's (or child at heart ;) ) bedroom, we really liked this position. We used clipart to decorate each ring, and each ring had a saying, like "Three days to go!" It really helped make the time go by, and gives small children a better grasp on the constant question of "how many more days till Disney?"

We did this with strips of construction paper and the kids and I decorated each ring. After they get dressed for school in the am they get to tear one ring off. It really helps them understand how many days are left when they can see and count the remaining rings. Ds teacher made one for him in class and worked that into a math lesson. Only three rings left  Oh and we started at the 30 day mark.

We made one last year and my DS loved it at first but got sick of doing it before we were ready to leave. We put a sticker on each ring too so he got to wear a different Disney sticker to preschool each day. All of the other kids came running up to him to see what sticker he had on that morning too. :rotfl:

Wow, it sounds like I do it the lazy way! I make a chain of colored paperclips. Depending on how long I am counting down from each paperclip represents either a day or a week. Then I hang it from the bulletin board in our kitchen using a thumb tack. Not as cute as decorated paper chains, but it works for me!

YeP, we are doing one.
We got the chains off this site: http://themouseforless.com/downloads/kidsdownloads.shtml

They have Disney Characters on them, it's cute!
I scrapbook, so I made sure to take a picture of it when we started it at 30 days and counting. I added a Mickey punch, (it's a punch that looks like Mickey's Head) I wrote the numbers 1 - 30 on them, then I stuck them to each chainlink.

We count every day, to see how many days until Disney.
Today, we have THREE days left!! Whoooo HOoooooo!

My son is very excited and so am I. :)

Take care
Kathryn
3 days and counting until our FIRST Disney Trip!!! :)

I have posted this on another thread before, but I am proud of myself :rotfl: and so there it bears repeating I think. I got a bunch of those Mickey paint chips from Home Depot- all different colors- and have written the countdown on them. Each day I place them in different places that my DBF will see. Sometimes in his iPod case, in his wallet, on the bathroom mirror- well, you get the idea. It's fun, and they say things like "49 days to Tower of Terror"---this was today's!!! :woohoo:

I have not done one before....but I am going to do one this year. I think it is a cute idea too.

We're doing this! We put it together on 10/1. DD made each strip some of their favorite characters. (Nemo came off tonight!). They each take turns removing a ring each night before they go to bed. Since DD stays up later than DS, she leaves it on the kitchen table for him to see in the morning (she leaves for school before he's awake).

So far they haven't gotten bored with it, nor have they forgotten whose turn it is!

We currently have it hanging on the wall in our family room. I took their picture with it the day they put it together, and I think I'll do it again when we're about a week away.

We did something a little different, used paint chips from HD and stickers, cost me less than $5 and DD had a blast, everyday you pull off a mickey she gets a princess, it was fun to do.

How cute is that! I love it. We are 41 days out, I may copy this idea. DD (8) would love it, she is such a girly girl. princess:

On our last trip I made a paper chain about 4 months out from our trip. It really helped our 2 1/2 DD see how many days we still had to go. It became our bedtime ritual to tear a ring before going to sleep. I admit that the ring was as much for me as my DD but it appears I'm not the only "adult" on this board who would make a chain.

Also I found an online countdown calculator that would give your time left in weeks, days, hours and minutes. And even with the countdown chain I would still check this site multiple times a day to figure out exactly when our plane left.

DD10 & I always make a chain before we go on a vacation. We use construction paper and I'll write the date on each strip then I'll put a note inside some of them if we have a special event on that day. We once had a chain that was for approx 3 months - it started upstairs in the hallway and ran down the bannister, when it gets real short we hand it from the bottom rail of the bannister.
I'm so ready to make a chain - I've been thinking about it a lot...hmmmmm maybe tonight if dd doesn't have a lot of homework. :woohoo:

I posted about the chain a while back also, I always do one, I think I get more excited than the kids.
One time I made one for my friends daughter and she ripped most of them off in one night. SHe thought it would make the trip come sooner.
Isn't that cute? :rotfl:

We are currently doing our chain and I told my daughter that if she ripped more off the trip would not come quicker as I saw a look in her eye....
