9 years ago I sold our DVC membership to buy an RV to use at Fort Wilderness (ok, and camp other places too)

In November we sold our RV and now I'm looking for a new one. I would only consider a fifth wheel, but beyond that I'm getting really overwhelmed by the choices. I really want a Toyhauler (for a golf cart that I don't have and may never get), but I don't want to have to buy a new truck. Maybe another bunkhouse? Or maybe just a comfortable fifth wheel?

If you really like what you camp in, please tell me what you've got.

Thanks!

We have a "mom and pop" Sanibel. Comfortably sleeps 2, but the couch folds out to a queen air bed for 2 more. We also have 2 rocker recliners, double fridge, and two A/c. It seems an A/c in the bedroom is nice for the humid summers. Good luck on your search. They do make lighter weight fifth-wheels for 1/2 ton trucks. Ours requires. 3/4 ton truck.

We have a TT. It serves our purpose well. Very comfortable for the 2 of us. When we have had 4 of us it took some packing skills. We pull with a Dodge 2500 and put the golf cart in the bed of the truck.

Love our class C, but it isn't a 5th Wheel. I wonder if you'd get some more specific responses about 5er recommendations if you had it in your title. And since we're so varied here, you might want to hop over to the rig specific section of RV.net or something like that.

Happy shopping! The research is almost as fun as the travel for me!

Oh, and BTW, we're in the same club! Sold DVC and bought our pop-up with it (along with a new porch on the house!) and since have sized up in the RV department. :)

Thanks for the replies! Even though I'm looking for a fifth wheel, I figured I'd ask everyone, regardless of what they've got because it might help someone else who's looking for whatever or doesn't know what they want.

I'm on RV.net, too. And also on the Keystone forum. I am leaning toward a Keystone Mountaineer toyhauler or a Keystone Laredo 346RD fifthwheel (non-toyhauler, non-bunkhouse). We won't have the kids with us forever, but I keep thinking the garage will come in handy regardless.

We've got a Chevy 3500 dually, but it's gas, so the fifthwheel tow rating is only 15,200 lbs.

We have a bunkhouse fifth wheel - a 2012 KZ Durango 2500 D355BH. It is our second bunkhouse 5'er, and it is far superior to our Keystone Copper Canyon, at least from a floorplan perspective for us.

Some things that we like better this time around:
1) Our Copper Canyon had 2 bathrooms. We found that to be a waste of valuable space (plus it was additional upkeep). We are always at a campground with access to bathhouses anyhow, so there was no need for it.

2) The kitchen layout is far superior. I actually have counter space.

3) We prefer an enclosed bathroom. We had just a "toilet" closet in our first camper with the shower in the master. With kids and what-not, the enclosed bathroom was a must have when we upgraded.

We loved our Sunline, but sadly we had to sell that after DD came along. Our Prowler is ok, but it's not something we'd buy again.
Good luck on your search

We also have a Durango 2500 D355BH which we like very much. It has plenty of space and the quad bunk house serves us well with our three children aged 19,17 and 15. My only complaint is not enough sitting space for 5 adults watching TV. When the kids are no longer travelling with us I would like to consider some of the front living room style 5th wheels. Happy Hunting!

We have had numerous types/sizes travel trailers over the years including a 5th wheel, but for the last 10 years have had Class A MH's and found this is what we enjoy the most.

Ease of driving, parking and set up without getting out of the coach has won us over. Could never have purchased one when we first started camping, so unlike what some folks say about buying what you want the first time, would never have worked for us. It's been gradually upgrading over the years, and we've enjoyed each RV except the 5th wheel. Loved it when it was set up, but DH hated towing it.

We have a class C and I love it even though we have had problems with it. It is our first RV and if I had it all to do over again I would still pick our 2014
31k Winnebago Minnie Winnie.
My husband would like to get a class A once he retire as he feels that class A feels more like a home inside.

We have a 2005 MH that we recently bought. It has three slides and a side bath (which s great). The table only has two chairs, but that allows our special needs son to wheel up to the table instead of having to lift him into a dinette. We're going to buy two folding chairs for when we have guests and play games at the table. The two front slides also gives DS room to maneuver in his chair instead of crawling around. DW and DD sleep on the sofabed and DS and I have our mancave in the back. Also lots of basement storage space. Any towable would not work for us due to the need to move the two teens in and out of the TV and trailer.

Ever changing needs and wants.

Sold our C and bought DCV in '97. Six or more trips per year. Added on another contract but then started using less. Sold initial contract and bought an A. Had a blast again so sold second contract. DD adopted 2 girls with Spina Bifida with one needing to cath so sold RV and bought bath and a half larger A with the full master bath in the rear. Both often in use at the same time. Some say half bath is waste of space but it's a room that can always be used for storage and its original intent is still there if/when needed.

We just spent Marathon Weekend at FW where I drive the MH to EPCOT every morning for the races. Not wanting to make too much noise at 0230 when we leave, I bring in the slides the night before and having the second bath allows me to roll out of bed and use my head where DW can roll out and use her Master Bath. DD stays with us Friday night to join in for the Saturday Half Marathon and again the second bath is great for her.

Will we ever will go back to a single bath, :confused3, but might some day go to a diesel pusher.

Retired and Happy I think I recognize you from RV.net. Did you used to have a fifthwheel?

I looked up that KZ bunkhouse. It's very similar to the Mountaineer I'm looking at, but instead of a bunk room the Mountaineer has a garage.

It's so hard to wait for what I want, but one of the local dealers said that the new version of the Mountaineer toyhauler should be out in the Spring. In the meantime I'd love to book our next trip to the Fort but we can't go till Summer of 2015. And I can't make ressies that far out :(

we are on our 4th RV, 1 TT and 3 fifth wheels. very happy with our current model, a Cardinal 3450. made by forest river. our 1st TT was a Salem, also FR product, the 1st 5'r also a cardinal, tried a Montana but quickly went back to another Cardinal :thumbsup2 awesome quality.

WE have DVC and our camper 5th wheel the reason at first was to use the points to book at the campground but low and behold that plan has failed us as the camprground is always booked up with no more available for dvc use of points so cash is what we have to go with to camp. So we decided to go when we are short or low on points until they are back in stock as to say. We love our 5th wheel especially no payment on it. we have a 2008 and its a cardinal 45 footer ,made better IMO than some newer 5th wheels today that cost more money. The sleeping is a bit off but we have a king bed and the living room fits a queen blow up mattress which we bought the most comfortable one we could find that adjust the air for firmness. There is a tight spot between the kitchen island and kitchen table but two teens slept right there on the floor. WE preferred more living space for during the daytime hours. We always go looking and never seem to find anything that appeals to us like our current camper hence maybe the no payment is the enticing part.

We have a Keystone Cougar 327 RES and we love the layout. Looked at a couple motor homes and they didn't have near the storage our 5ver has. I love the three ceiling to floor pantries in the kitchen. By the way ours is a 2011.

We have a travel trailer that I LOVE. It's so pretty inside with white cabinets and stainless steel. I can't wait till camping season starts up again.

here are some pics of our 5th wheel 34QRL Love it and looking forward to camping at FT wilderness

Last summer we up-sized from an 8 foot Coleman Taos popup to a Fun Finder X 240 and we love our new Travel Trailer. The popup was a great starter camper for our family but now that the boys are bigger and we are bringing more stuff , bikes, kayaks, etc, we are loving the added space, storage and amenities the travel trailer gives us.
