Do you like your job? What do you do?

It's not always what people think. Lots of fraud going on in this industry.
What do you mean? Maybe there is some of that in big cities, but I live in a very rural area in a forestry, non industry area. I traveled within a 50 mile radius around our small town into some really remote areas. Our Hospice was and is associated with the hospital. I'm sorry that you have fraud in your area.
Agencies admitting patients that aren't hospice appropriate. Medicare fraud. You can certainly google the stories. It's been in the news quite a bit of late with the Los Angeles hospice fraud.
All I would say is if you are planning on going into to this field make sure the agency you are working for is on the up and up. A few years ago a couple of nurses made millions being whistle blowers. It has not been very well regulated.
I imagine that's something rare. Most credible RN's that I know would never do something like that. I can see the administrators in a big city, like LA, pulling that stuff. That's too bad, but very rare in my opinion.

A radiopharmaceutical microbiologist. I like my job, don't love it, don't hate it. But it staves off the existential dread and pays for Disney so I probably won't leave.

Certified Hemodialysis Technician which I've been doing for 38 years. It was a great job many years ago but after covid we lost a lot of employees. It's hard work with long hours and we're always short staffed. Unfortunately, most of the young employees don't have the same work ethics as the older crew. Haven't been late ever and haven't called out in over 20 years. Something you never see these days

I was never implying that the hospital associated company you worked for was anything but legit. Don't take it personally. A lot of large cities have hundred of small hospice and home health agencies with small census's. They do admit patients that are not appropriate or keep patients on service for years. They also give doctors kick backs for recommending hospice service to patients. The stories would shock you. Yes there are plenty of good companies, but to say fraud is rare is naive.

I only bring it up to warn anybody thinking about getting into that side of healthcare to do your due diligence. Yes you are right once you start working for a company it is east to see that the patients you are assigned do not meet criteria, or there is some funny business going on, but then you have to start all over. It's a great job with the right company. I do think it needs better regulation.
