Do you let your guests pick which DVC?

Just wondering how many of you that take guests allow them to pick the accommodations? We are taking family next year and my initial thought was to stay at OKW for cheaper points and more space but then I thought it might be nice to let them choose where to stay. We aren't charging them anything to stay. This is our treat.

What do most of you do who have guests?

I've always selected the Resort myself and then offered it to guests if there is space or if it is my gift to them. In all cases so far it has been accomodations at my home Resort, since I can make reservations further in advance. My friends and family have just be happy to be anywhere at WDW. For them, it is a trip of a lifetime so having any Resort on-site has been a thrill. Many probably thought I had a timeshare just in Orlando, not right on WDW property.

I have already been asked to do a timeshare exchange with friends. They have a place in the Caribbean and want to take their son to WDW during April vacation. So, I will make the reservation at OKW to assure a spot for them and enjoy my week on a tropical beach.

I usually pick the place. First off, I get what is available without feeling like I let them down to start with if I can't get their first choice. Second, I think like many on this board, noone I am taking knows Disney like I do, therefor, they would be making a very uneducated request.

Last trip I had to switch from BWV to OKW due to in-law add on. I was disappointed not to be in the hustle of things, but they thought anything Disney was amazing.

The true bottom line, you won't go wrong with any DVC choice.

Any time we have ever taken guests, they have been happy to be wherever we thought was best. If someone had a really specific request, if it didn't mean a huge point difference between their request and other accomodations, I'd have no problem honoring their request. I like all the DVC properties.

Last year we took my brother and family. His youngest had just successfully completed ten long months of chemo, and so we let him pick the resort. We're taking them again next year, but we're doing the picking this time!!!

Taking DF, DS and family next month. At first I picked OKW because that was all the points we had. Then after thinking this may be everyone's once in a lifetime event and knowing being closer to the magic would be a hugh benefit, we added on and let them pick the resort. They picked BCV for SAB and location. We were more than happy with that as this is the only DVC resort we have not stayed at. So I guess it was a win win situation. If we go again it may be HH or VB because they have never seen the ocean. Again, I will probably let them choose.

In a way yes but its more determined by where we're going or what we're doing. Last week we took the kids and wanted to check out SAB so BCV was in order. In Oct we're going to Food and Wine so we stay at BCV and BWV to walk. In Nov I want to take MIL to the MK (and for me too to see the Christmas lights ) so we're staying at the VWL. In Aug though we're just messing around and probably going to USF/IOA to use the APs we bought last Labor Day before they expire so we'll stay at OKW top save points and we'll be driving anyway. If it's just DW and I or points is an issue, we stay at OKW. So in a way it's indirectly determined by our guests but they don't "pick".

Thanks for all the replies! I will probably let them pick-- knowing my family they would pick OKW anyway. Since they've only stayed on property twice (once at CBR, once at ASM) they would probably love anywhere! But space will probably win out-- I don't know though... SAB looks awfully inviting too!

My friends and family think that OKW is all I can get and that seems to work. LOL! Usually they want to go at busy times (Feb break in the NE for example) so we just go with what I can book at 11 months.

we had the exact same thought as you did "loveswdw".

We orignally made shorts and certificates for my DW's two sisters and thier sig others. We were going to get a 2BR @ OKW for the extra space with three couples and one 2yr-old. That is what the certificates says we gave.

But the one sister with the child is now expecting thier second child so DW and I decided we could do any of the resorts. So we gave them choice of VWL or BCV. They picked BCV (even though they are just happy to be anywhere).

My points....my choice. It's awful nice of you to let your guests choose. My opinion though is "if they wish to stay with us....you stay where I choose ". I don't think anyone would complain !
