Do you know, or have you overheard someone, who thinks they know everything about Disney world, but really they have no idea what they are talking about?

Lol I just had this experience today. I overheard a colleague talking to someone else about Pandora and TOT. Mind you, my colleague visits Disney World pretty much every Christmas. But this was what she incorrectly said to this other person who does not have as much Disney knowledge:

1) They had a soft opening for avatar land to see if it would work but they had to close it again.

2) Avatar land is opening at the end of the summer.

3) They were thinking about moving TOT to California because apparently they don't have one there.

I was within ear shot and I just wanted to be like no that's so wrong! Lol but of course I didn't. Anyone else have an experience like that with someone they know, or have you just overheard a convo like that?

On number 1, maybe they were thinking of Rivers of Light. Still not true, but I see how they could get there with it.

On number 3, They don't have a ToT in California any more. Too bad they aren't actually moving one there!

I guess I think of a know-it-all as someone who does know the answers, but always, I mean ALWAYS, pipes up. Well, that might apply to a lot of posters here, and I'm not excluding myself.

I have also heard lots of disinformation, mostly while actually at the parks. Things like "Harry Potter is at Hollywood Studios" or "you have to pay extra for Fast Pass." I just keep moving unless it is in an actual conversation I am having with someone. Then I politely correct them.

She meant #3 as if there was never one there at all before the retheming. Oh well lol.

I was just talking to a coworker that was an expert. He kept telling me about how to get around at Magic Kingdom via trams. Seeing that I am about to take my 14th trip and his first and only trip was 8 years ago, I was trying to clarify that the tram was in a parking lot. After about 30 minutes of him explaining it to me, I pulled up Google Maps. He paused and said "oh yeah... there was a boat involved." Now he is going in 3 months and asking several questions...

It is tragic when the Know it All But Knows Nothing costs someone money. A co-worker saw my Disney Pin and started up a conversation. It turns out that he just booked a trip to WDW and upon advice of a friend who "knows all about Disney" , he bought Park Hoppers so he can skip the lines (I guess "hop" over the lines?) As soon as I explained the FP+ was free and what PH actually were, he cancelled them. He also bought WP&M and his friend told him that he could just show up at a water park mid day. I told him that you can, if you want to spend half a day looking for a chair.

First timer going for 6 days (but arriving late so, only 5 days). I told him that the water parks are awesome but he didn't have time this trip.

My niece is going in June with some girlfriends after graduation. One of the friends mother just opened a travel agency but knows very little about Disney. My poor niece keeps texting me "Does this sound right?" She has them up sold on everything. My niece is only going to be going for about 5 days, so a value with no park hopping, paying for meals OOP (they don't eat much and don't want TS) would have been perfectly fine.

I have 3 of them living in my house...ages 12, 9 and 9. They tell each other all the time that they know it all about WDW. :chat: :D

It's not helped by the fact that we have a family friend who is a CM. They ask her a million questions every time they see her. Trouble is they only partially remember and/or interpret the answer in their own way...

This might be marginally better than the people who have never been before, ask you for advice, and then ignore everything you tell them. They then make their first trip ever over Memorial Day weekend without pre-planning for meals or getting FP+. Then when they come back they tell everyone within a 25 mile radius how HORRIBLE their WDW vacation was because "it was sooooo HOT," "all we did was wait in two hour lines," and "all the restaurants were full so we ate nothing but hotdogs and fries." Their goal in life is now to convince anyone who will listen that a WDW vacation is pure HELL. And of course, WE are crazy for subjecting ourselves to that year after year. :confused3

Then there are the people I wish would ask. My co-worker is taking his family to WDW. He knows as a DVC member I go there twice a year. However, he buys hit tickets and gets a hotel, forgets to mention it to me until 2 weeks before, then asks me which restaurants I think he should go to and where the best character dining is and what FP+ tickets he should get...

I mean what do you say to that? There are some things they can TRY for last minute reservations - calling for cancellations, etc. But this was right before a busy time; chances were quite slim.

I don't know a single person who goes to WDW other than me and my son. Not entirely, true we did take a girlfriend of his one year but I'm sure she hasn't been since and we took his ex-wife a couple of times, I know she goes now with her current husband but she doesn't consult me. My co-worker used to take her kids years ago but they prefer Universal, which I know nothing about. Her oldest daughter and her boyfriend took a quick 3 day trip over Christmas break and she did ask me a few questions but I just gave her links to this board or the Disney web site. I've been going since 1982 and have been at least 30 times, go twice a year now and still don't consider myself an expert.

At one time -- do not recall how many years ago it closed but I am certain it was more than 8.... there was a tram or cable tram that did take you from one side to the other... and you could ride a Trolley down main street... maybe memories from a trip a lot longer ago..

Ugh. I had a friend do this when we went on our dance trip last year and she's been many times. Her whole family argued that they didn't want to go (except one of her dancing daughters). Their big complaint was the food. The one time they went as a family they got the DDP and swore it was the only way to go. This wasn't an option for us. We got food vouchers to QS places. She spent the entire year leading up to our trip convincing all who were going that there was nothing to eat but burgers and fries. Thankfully we had an informational meeting about 5 months before the trip. The studio director and I had so much educating to do and spent a good half hour just discussing the variety of menus.

**edited to add** she's been many times but has taken her kids only 2 of those times. The rest were with her parents when younger.

I'd say your co-worker has all the credentials to become a Disney bus driver! :earboy2:

I don't know anyone like that, thank goodness. That would be so annoying! LOL.

I do know two people who went to Disney within the last year and had such horrible TAs I couldn't even believe it. These TAs said they knew about Disney, but were the opposite of helpful. One lady I worked with I didn't hear about her terrible experience with her TA until after the trip, so I couldn't help her at all. But boy, her situation was bad. I was seething on her behalf.

The lady my husband worked with, DH offered my help a few weeks before their trip, but man, it was about too late at that point. And basically all their TA had done was upsell them on stuff they totally didn't need. They had BOUGHT the DDP and had 2 of their 7 ADRS made just a few weeks out. UGH! And they were at restaurants that made no sense logistically with their park plans. The family travelling was parents and 7 year old twins who were having their birthday during the trip. TA said they should do a rest day for their birthday. Huh?? That would have had them in the parks for 6 days, but they had already paid for 7 day tickets. He had them in and AoA suite because they "needed" that. Why? A family of 4 can stay anywhere on site, no problem. They knew nothing about fastpasses. It was so not cool.

I know someone who always does WDW better. Whatever you say you did or ate or stayed, he did it better. He does with with other vacations too, cruises, Vegas, the shore, he always does it best. He said his best WDW trip was when he brought his mother and they got her a GAC and they all took turns on her ECV. Good times ;)
