Ive wanted to learn for a long time now but I dont know how to do either.

How did you learn? Do you enjoy it?

Seemed like it would be a great thing to do on all of our long road trips :)

My grandmother taught me when I was young. I crocheted a few baby blankets when I was pregnant but that was about it. I just don't have time anymore.

I knit. I learned the basic knit stich from my sister who took a class. I later took a class and I think it's easier to learn from a person than a book. (I tried learning different stitches from a book.) If you have any craft or yarn stores near you, I bet they have classes. It's actually really easy to learn the basics. Fancy stuff is harder of course.

Yep--I sure do. I am a newly minted knitter. (been knitting for a little more than a year now). LOVE LOVE LOVE it. It took me 38 years to find my 'craft'

I cannot crochet to save my life, but I can knit.

I started by taking a class through my town's 'adult education' program. Terrible teacher, but I loved the actual knitting part of knitting. Then I found a class at a local yarn store. MUCH BETTER. better teacher, better projects, better EVERYTHING.

I'm now taking a class to learn how to make socks!! wheeeee

There's a great website www.knittinghelp.com which gives instruction, but also has small videos to watch. I like this because you can watch over and over and over again.

I crochet and I think it's a lot of fun. My mom taught me when I was young. I usually do it when I'm watching TV.

I knit. I taught myself using a book. It took me several days to actually get the hang of it. I love to knit. I am in the middle of making a purse right now. I can't knit for long periods of time because of carpal tunnel.

Craft stores like Micheals often have knitting and crochet classes.

I would love to learn to crochet.

I know how to crochet and I really enjoy it.

However...

I have a huge problem with finishing projects. :guilty: So I'll go out and buy all this yarn and start on something and get bored with it and quit. One time I decided to start on a sampler afghan where you make all these different squares and put them together. I got like 30 squares done and lost them all in a move.

Anyway, it's pretty easy to learn. There are a lot of great beginner's books out there and you should be able to find one in Michael's. I think there's even an Idiot's guide and a Dummies book. I keep wanting to learn how to knit, but I figure if I don't finish crochet projects, how will I ever finish a knitting one??? :rotfl:

I just started crocheting. I like it but I'm not very good at it. I'm still having problems getting my hands just right. I'm working on my first project now - a scarf for DH. I decided to crochet instead of knit because my Mother knits and no one else in my family crochets since my Meme died

I thought I would knit my baby a blanket and it was going well for a few days and then I just got sick of it and decided I had a nice baby scarf. :rotfl: I definitely need the smaller projects that can be finished in a reasonable amount of time.

I'm glad I'm not the only one! :rotfl2: DH gets so frustrated. We could start our own business on all the cast off projects I've never finished. Crochet, cross stitch, paints, decoupage... it goes on and on.

Hats, purses, mittens, socks. Nice little projects. I've not yet had the attention span to finish a blanket. (I have 3 gorgeous patterns to try too)

I currently have 6 projects on needles. :scared1: In my defense, 3 are almost done. But I have 4 more pair of mittens to make for Christmas gifts......

I also find it's very easy to become a yarn addict.

Bin, I just started knitting like 2 weeks ago. I just finished a scarf and my sister wants one now. I figure once I get the scarf thing down I will move on to bigger and better!

I did join a group that I knew a few in from church. That helped me so much! Not easy to learn from directions, but actually showing you really helped!

I say try it and have fun! It's taken more of my free time lately but I won't complain!

I enjoy crocheting a lot. I even joined a club for a while, until I realized I just don't have what it takes to make the simplest of items look nice. My edges are always warped, no matter what I try to make. As long as you don't mind wearing a warped item, the colors are nice LOL
I gave my needles away after trying for about 10 years. Some people just have the touch!
Good luck to you if you learn, I always admire people who can make their items come out nicely, there's nothing like a handmade gift.

I recently became interested in knitting myself..I read a book by Debbie McComber(not sure if I spelt that right) I believe it was called A Good Yarn, no the book isn't a knitting book, it is just based on characters that meet in a sock knitting class, a very cute book.

Maybe someday i'll get a chance to take a class, I'm afraid I'll be one young knitter lol at 25 years of age.

I know how to do both, learned from friends in high school, but I enjoy crocheting more, and I'm better at it. (projects get finished and look nice - with knitting, I seem to mess things up easier!)

I have crocheted several afghans, the granny squares, baby items, and recently with cotton kitchen yarn I've made several wash cloths (there's a nice easy project). I carry it with me on the bus to/from work. Also nice to do while waiting, like at a doctor's office, etc. :sunny:

Good luck - like someone else posted, you can probably find lessons at a craft store, or through a church group maybe?

I do a bit of knitting and more crocheting. Knitting has been hard for me to master. Crochet I started learning years ago from my aunt and took it up again recently. I got a cd at Joanns called Crochet Made Easy. I just sit in the computer chair and follow the lessons. It was only about $8 and I believe they have one for knitting as well. It's very clear and easy to follow. I highly recommend it.

ETA: I just found both cd's on ebay. I'm getting the knitting one too.
