Do you have to order an appetizer?

First timers using the DDP. We are going to Kona on our first night. I chose this restaurant because I liked them menu choices plus my DH would LOVE to just see the Poly. He said he would get the prime rib but between him and my two boys (who are "adults") they would not eat any of the apps. I know we don't HAVE to order them, but would they give my kids like a side of fries instead? Or something else? Just wondering, if not....that's fine. Just trying to figure out what everyone is going to order ahead of time ;)

How about any of these other restaurants?
Le Cellier
Sci Fi

Our other TS choices are buffets so they can find a ton of stuff that will suit them.

I think I've heard some great things about the wings at Kona. Maybe they will enjoy them. They also have chicken noodle soup on the menu.

For Le Cellier the Beef Kabob should be easy to please or the Cheese soup. Any sauces can be ordered on the side.

At Sci-Fi we enjoyed the onion rings. Chili might be a winner!!

You can always ask if a side of fries might be a replacement for you appetizer. This might also be fun for them to try something new and unusual.

We each pick an appetizer and share them all! we get to try four things we would probably never try anywhere else! We usually end up with one or two that we really like, and two that we end up making faces at (like Beverly in club cool:rotfl2: ) Either way, we have fun!

I just wish that my DH and boys would be adventurous and try different things. I had planned on ordering a few of the appetizers in hoping that they would ATLEAST TRY them. So I guess we'll see how it goes.

This is what we do, too--order a bunch of appetizers and spread them around. Sometimes we trade (WCC--they order the skillet, which comes with a salad for me, and I order the vegetarian entree and the nachos for them), often I finish the kids' fruit, my dh ate both kids' (and his own) potato leek soup at R&C (he loves that stuff), and I gave my dh my appetizers at both Le Cellier and Coral Reef (the seafood apps looked WAY better than the salads--but I made up for it by finishing his desserts:rolleyes1 ).

This next trip, my dd, who will be 10, has decided she wants to order the escargots at Chefs de France. Not because she's a big foodie (she could live on chicken nuggets and top ramen), but because she's never had them (and probably never will again). They're included, we're going to have a ton of food, so why not try some things we normally wouldn't order?

So, although you don't have to order appetizers, why not? At Kona, I'd get at least one order of the sticky wings, maybe a soup or salad and then go wild--order the crab cakes (because they're the most expensive appetizer).

At Le Cellier, you have to try the famous cheese soup, and everyone raves about the beef kabobs. Throw in a shrimp cocktail and a salad, and you're set.

Sci-Fi is the easiest. At least one onion rings, spinach and artichoke dip, then a salad or chili. Even if you don't finish anything, you can try a lot of different things.
