A guy came into work yesterday with the most delish candy/snack thing, that I think I went to heaven. His wife makes this, so I asked him how she does it. All he could tell me was this......

Line a baking sheet with saltine crackers, the she melted butter & sugar and poured it over the crackers, baked that for sometime. Then take them out of the oven & while hot dump chocolate chips on top (But I think she must have melted the chips along with a touch of butter or something) Then she topped it off with crushed nuts. It was all broken up like a chocolate bark. It was so goooooood. Do you know what I'm talking about and have the recipe?

I'm also going to put this over on the recipe board and see if someone has it over there.

I've seen Paula Deen make something along these lines (yep, the candy melts on their own), I'll go see if I can find it.

Here is one...

35 saltine crackers
1 cup butter
1 cup packed light brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
5 (4-ounce) milk chocolate bars, broken into pieces

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.

Line a 15 by 10 by 1-inch jelly roll pan with tin foil. Lightly spray foil with a non-stick cooking spray.

Place saltine crackers, salty side up, in prepared pan. In a saucepan, boil butter and sugar for 2 to 3 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and stir in almond extract. Pour mixture over crackers and bake for 4 to 6 minutes. Remove from oven, top with candy bars, and spread evenly as chocolate begins to melt. Cool slightly and transfer onto waxed paper. Allow to cool completely.

I've seen recipes with nuts and fruit also and different types of chocolate. Guess you could use this recipe as a jumping off point. Have fun!

Saltine Chocolate Crunch

1 sleeve (about 24) Saltines
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 cup butter
12 oz. (2 cups) semi-sweet chocolate chips
3/4 cup chopped nuts

Preheat oven to 400º F. Line a 10 X 15-inch cookie sheet with foil. Spray very lightly with cooking spray.

Cover cookie sheet with saltines, one layer. Boil sugar and butter for 3 minutes. Pour over saltines and spread evenly. Bake at 400º F. for 5 minutes. Remove from oven.

Sprinkle with chocolate chips. Let set 1 minute, then spread melted chips with spatula. Sprinkle nuts over and press down lightly. Cut on diagonal immediately or cool until firm, then break up, pieces can be frozen.

Yield 30 pieces.

Notes: These are addicting, but I like the milk chocolate pieces instead of the semi-sweet. I also check my sugar/butter syrup till it's to the soft ball stage.

I make this and love it!!!!! I don't use the nuts though(don't like 'em), it is very sweet!

Awesome! My dad used to make this all the time when we were kids. Except he would use his name, Ray, and call it Ray's candy. It was an ongoing joke in our family and beyond because whoever inherited the recipe would replace the name with their own :D I really like the mix of salty and sweet.

Hi. I also make them but use graham crackers instead.
I top with-milk chocolate chips
white chocolate chips
crushed candy canes
Skor bar bits-I think only sold here in Canada.
