Do you have slipcovers?

Are there better brands than others? And are they as annoying as they look?? I don't want to be constantly adusting them. This is for our living room...the room we really REALLY live in, all the time (no family room ), with 3 kids (14, 12, 9). I'm just so sick of the furniture and how the whole living room looks. I want to paint and make some other changes. I think I have "Trading Spaces" fever.

I bought one for my couch (a sleeper sofa) and I tried and tried and tried and could NOT get it to fit my couch, it was just too BIG!!!!

It was a surefit or in my case sure didn't fit.

Trading spaces puts way too many ideas in my head too, Mare.

Whatever you do, don't paint your couch! It's a really bad idea. Just ask Hildi.

If you decide to go the slipcover route, I would go with a heavier fabric. I would think the heavier the fabric, the more it would stay where it was supposed to. I also saw where they put a heavy dowel rod behind the cushions to help keep the slipcover in place.

Well, I bought a SureFit slipcover today, and tried...and tried...and tried...and tried...and tried...and tried some more...to get it to fit...and it sure didn't. As WDW2002 and abaldacci said, it was just TOO BIG. I was so tense, no one dared come into the LR while I was working on it.

The good new is...I bought a lovely pillow, that also matches the upholstery that's already there. I'm going to get some more, and dress the old stuff up a bit. And buy lottery tickets...

My friend has a slipcover on her couch. It's denim, and has several ties so you can really adjust the fit. It still fits the couch a little loosely, sort of a more casual than formal look, if you know what I mean. But it's nice, and it doesn't slide around or anything. I've seen some that looked like they would be continuously annoying and requiring adjustment, so I guess it's jut one of those things you have to try. Keep your sales slip, in case when you get them home and on your furniture, they don't work.

I have a Surefit denim fabric slipcover for my sleeper sofa, and it's great. Very durable, and looks nice. My sofa is huge though, so if it were a little smaller the slipcover would definitely be too large.

I had redecorating fever a few months ago too! It's amazing what new fabric and a few accesories can do to a room.

I had Denim slip covers from Macys the real thick kind. They were around $300 for the couch and loveseat. They fit fine, but I had to reposition and tuck them in each day, unless you sit perfectly still! I used them because I didn't want to get the couch underneath dirty. Slipcovers can be washed easily. I would take them off when I had company. I don't use them anymore.

If you can sew you can make a fitted slipcover that won't move around as much. Slip cover each of the seat cushions and then make a fitted cover for the frame. It's a little time consuming but well worth the savings. I just looked at a new couch and I decided that I would rather make a slipcover for mine than spend a small fortune.

My mom did this it looks so much better then the standard covers. I keep hinting that I wish they made covers like this but I am not holding my breath
