Do you have "Everything must be perfect before we go" syndrome?

I'm that way with the house - I do super cleaning before we leave. No one else understands that - they laugh about me cleaning like crazy in case someone breaks into the house!

We went on a cruise last year right after Christmas. We were so rushed plus all of the outings and entertaining that comes along with the holidays that it looked like a bomb had gone off in our house.
We came home to discover we had been broken into.
And guess what one of my first thoughts was? Oh my god. I'm going to have to let the police into this mess
Now I am going to clean like a mad woman when we go away. Can't have the burgalars thinking I'm a slob

i get those same driving away fears. what i have started doing, that helps a bit is i get everyone in the car and all the luggage, then i go back in the house and walk each room to see that everything looks right. i make sure no one enters the house after i walk out.

but, by the time i get to the airport im already thinking "did i look at that" "was that turned off".

I do the exact same thing! I have to walk through each room slowly by myself and have to be the last one out. I just send DH &DS to the car and let them get the air and radio where they want it while I do my check.

Same here. We have a friend pet/house sit everytime we go away so the DH and kids tease me that the house is cleaner when we go away then normal. "You don't want ----- thinking we live like slobs do you?" Plus then it is nice and neat when we get home for about 10 minutes until we empty the car and suitcases.

Before we go on any trip, DH and I both need the house to be spotless, the laundry done and the van clean. Actually, I don't care that much about the van but dh cleans it inside and out before every trip...even when we're flying!

We HATE coming home to a messy house!
