If your talking girls, I went to Target today and they had "Hello Kitty" nail polish and lip gloss on sale, also "Hello Kitty toothbrush and toothpaste sets." So I bought a couple of those. I'm also going to hit up "Build A Bear" and purchase "Build A Bear Bucks."
i have a ds age 6. so far for his stocking i have an electric toothbruch. i bought the one by oral B because it has buzz lightyear. they have a whole line of them for the different ages with different characters.
another thought would be those little magnetic games. they make travel versions, keychain versions. and now they have small versions on pens! (i spend waaay to much time in the toy section! LOL)
i like the idea of the hello kitty stuff for girls. you can also find lots of little makeup type things at your local dollar store. sometimes you can get really great finds there.
for the boys what about hotwheels? or small action figures.
cd roms and video games are also small enough to fit in a stocking.
I also bought some of those battery operated toothbrushes. BTW, my kids are 10, 7 & 4 (almost 5). I bought small Bionicle ($2.97 each at Walmart) boxes for the boys, a Hello Kitty flashlight (small) for DD, Mario & Yoshi clip-on thingies for the boys (got them from Avon) & Hello Kitty one for DD, Yu-gi-oh cards for oldest DS, Thomas the Tank Engine for DS#2. My kids love LifeSavers, so I got some of them too. I will include a McD's gc or a Blockbuster gc in their stockings.
I have also included character bandaids in their stockings, they're cute and will definitely get used. I usually look for things that they like and will be useful.
I've used alot of the above mentioned items - I also include chapstick in favorite flavors, Bath & Body shop stuff - my 14 year old loves their Men's line, CD's ,video games, movie gift certificates, favorite candies, fleece socks....
I've been shoppping at the dollar store for the past couple of months. They get some good stuff sometimes. In fact I've gotten them so much I'm buying some of the rubbermaid clear boxes to put them all in.
Flashlights....all of mine loved flashlights. They didn't care what kind (but the Playskool ones were great...too big for stocking though) so the cheap ones are good. Also KinderSurprise eggs for the older ones.
I bought the kids paint by numbers kits. They love to do projects. I also buy bath and body works stuff and the kids always get a lifesaver book and a chocolate orange.
I second the electric toothbrushes. Last year my husband got the mermaid with a tag on it "You've always wanted a BABE for Christmas" and my 17 yr old a racing car "Here's the sports car you asked for".
They LOVED them!
-----------
Other items ... foods/candy you don't normally buy that they are always asking for -- like packs of gum, beef jerky, etc. Also disposable camera is nice.
I have a similar dimlima. My DS (who will only be about 7.5 months old on Christmas morning) has a cute little Baby's First Christmas stocking hanging on the mantle. What in the world am I suppose to put in it???
My DD (4 and will be 5 four days after Christmas) was almost a year old when I did her first stocking so I could put some treats in her stocking along with a couple of toys. This year she's getting some furniture to go with her Loving Family Doll House and the grandparents to go with it. Those are small enough to fit in the stocking. I also have to get a twin bed for it too. I was watching her play a while back ago and I notice the doll that represents her was sleeping on the couch. I asked her why and she said, "Because I don't have a bed" Oops...my bad. I also noticed some Disney Princess bath stuff at Target the other day. It comes in a little gift bag for only $6.99. I don't know if it will fit in her stocking but it's pretty cute. It has bubble bath, one of those spoungy thingies, lotion, etc.
My kids used to love .. SILLY PUTTY In fact.. I think I will put some in their stockings this year.. they are all over 12 now.. but dang I bet they play all day with that stuff. Yo-Yo's, paddle balls,
washable markers.. smelly markers and stickers, phone cards, blockbuster cards, movie certificates.. for the older kids...
