Do you have an Ignore List?

nah, the only person I'd put on there says too many insane things to pass up. It's just comical to read them!

I had 2 posters on ignore when I had only been DISing a few months. Back then I let other posters get to me in a way they simply can't anymore. They did deserve to be on ignore but I took them off of it soon afterwards because I was way too curious to see what they were saying. The feature doesn't work well for me because of the fact that you still know they posted even though you can't see what it says. If it made it to where there was no sign of them at all and you had no idea they had posted and nobody ever quoted what they said then it might actually work, lol!

Now I don't have anyone on ignore and it would have to get extremely bad for me to put somebody on ignore again. I just don't let things get to me on here anymore for the most part. I also don't post as much as I did back then which has a lot to do with it!

As far as the buddy list, I have used it but I found it to be pointless for me personally. And if I am on anyone's buddy list (which I think is unlikely! ) then it wouldn't tell you when I am online anyway. I have that feature turned off! And now you know my DIS secret!

I have never had anyone on Ignore. I have found that though some posters may completely get under my skin on one thread, I really like their posts on others.

Nope. For a number of reasons:
- I don't want to miss anything good!
- I might totally disagree with someone on one thread and then be right behind them on another
- I usually get something out of everyone's posts (even if it's just anger that makes me work really hard the next time I go on a run!), and often end up discussing controversial topics with my partner

So, just out of curiosity, what happens when you're looking at a thread where someone on your ignore list has posted?

I know the post is hidden, but do you somehow know that they posted, like is there an indication that post #4 is hidden? If they start a thread, is the whole thread hidden, or just their posts, so you see a bunch of replies to nothing?

As you can see, I'm quite befuddled by the whole concept of the ignore list.

It says something like "You have Bob Slydell on your ignore list" with a link you can click if you want to read their post. If they're the OP of the thread, it just hides the OP itself, not the replies.

Like someone mentioned, if someone quotes a person on your ignore list, you'll see that person's post, assuming the quoting person isn't also on your ignore list.

First of all, I realize that few of you will see this, but...

Soon after I started dabbling on the CB I put someone on my ignore list. After a few weeks I realized it wasn't what I really wanted to do, so I removed the name. I haven't seen that person around in years, so I guess they went away or got banned My policy now is that you can flame away, say things that really aggravate me, make fun of me, or whatever and I will not put you on my ignore list.

BTW, I don't understand or use the buddy list

never used the ignore feature. there have been people that were rude to me as well on a thread but I just decided to not let it bother me considering people here really don't know all the circumstances and all the details that something really involves. Sometimes they don't read all the posts, just skim and make a judgment. They make assumptions and don't know the reality of the situation, just small tidbits of info and they think they know your life history. but that's just my .02... you can ignore me now

For the first time ever I do have someone on my list. And the reason is just too funny! It's because they have something in their signature that I object to, lol. Yep, that's it, I don't like a link they have in their siggie so I just turned them off.

I don't usually care one way or the other about their posts though so I don't mind if someone quotes them. With them on ignore I don't have to look at that siggie and that's good enough for me.

I wonder if the webmasters collect data to see which posters are most commonly on ignore lists? That would make for an interesting read IMHO.

I do have to admit that I recognize so many posters by their avatars or signatures that some times my mind will automatically be drawn to (or ignore) their posts

Nope, I don't have far enough time to worry about that! There are some posters whose posts I don't care to read, I just skim past those.

Another thing ignore does or did, I haven't used it in forEVER, is keep the people from PMing you! I remember taking someone OFF ignore and all of a sudden I had a slew of emails from this person.

BTW, I used it when I was a moderator on this board. Back then you had a big TARGET on your back if you moderated this board, which is probably why you DON'T see any names on top of the board anymore.

If you could've seen the content of some of the messages I got, you'd use IGNORE, too!

Yup--you don't see their posts. It just skips right over them. You can see thread titles they post, but nothing happens when you mouse over them.

I always think of it in terms of having a loud, annoying drunk show up on my doorstep. Sure, I could just ignore them, but isn't it so much nicer if they never show up in the first place?
